It's not hard, but you have to take your time. You can actually see the coil packs when you open the hood. They are sitting on your spark plugs and have electrical wires running to it. If you have the coils you can just take one out and drop the new one in. I would suggest changing the spark plugs since you are going to expose them anyways.nashvilledog wrote:Hi, I am new to this forum. How easy / hard is it to replace a coil on a 97 q45? I have one with 300k on it. I replaced one coil and all plugs replaced 2yrs ago. I just had a #7 coil replaced and all plugs replaced last week. The chk engine lite came on yesterday and the code reader said #6 is bad. my mechanic charged me 150 to do the work last week. My question is how hard is it to do myself and do I need to replace the plug in #6 too?
Thanks
If I may ask, why did you change your knock sensors? did you get a code for them? how did the car improve after changing them? I am asking because I am having some problems with my 98 and am thinking about doing knock sensors too.nashvilledog wrote:yep, I bought it with 80k on it and the only major repairs have been the rack and knock sensors (and of course reg maintaince). Thanks for the quick response. I hope this isn't too dumb of a question, but how do I tell which one is #6?
Thanks again
