I searched, looked at many a topic that sounded close, and have to wonder if it is even worth trying?

My 240SX is a 1991 EFI, has a single coil with electronic distributor, so forth and so on. I also have a fairly stock 1992 Ford Explorer 4.0L that has a crank angle sensor and a 6-coil pack, much cleaner and still strong with over 290K miles on the clock. Recently underwent a $200 service to replace rotor cap and wires on the 240SX, not bad, but it was mostly parts, and I'd like to make the car more reliable.

Any ideas? The distributor is a crank angle sensor of sorts, and it could be stripped down to trip the grounds on a 4-coil pack and fire them at the correct time. But, has the KA24DE every had the distibutorless design?

I don't recall any KA24DE having distributerless ignition from the factory but I know a few guys have done it using a standalone computer. Here is an article that show the installation using megaquirt: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Nissan_240 ... A24E/ITB's. I'm not sure if there would be enough of an increase in reliability to warrant doing the swap though.

really the best thing you can do is get EDIS out of a 90-91 ford escort. it has a few modes. look into megasquirt and it will describe it. its best to have megasquirt so you can advance and retard your timing.
