I'm curious if anyone has done a coil on plug setup on a ka24de or if it would even really be at all worth it for under 400 hp.

Pics and info would be helpful if you have a COP setup

I haven't read into it too much... how much is needed to convert? I'm planning on running aem ems once I get the 240 anyways. I know they have the CDI pencil coils, so that part won't be hard, but what else would I need? Would an sr20 distributer fit on a ka so I could run it like the SR's?

Under for under 400 hp the gains are marginal. The power/dollar ratio is pretty bad. In addition, the stock coil can do 400, and be pushed pretty far with a BAS.

However, improvements in ignition/spark are always good. They usually raise the MPG's, the mix burns cleaner and more thoroughly.

what's a BAS? Sorry I've never modded any cars with a distributor + coil setup like a 240sx. I've mostly worked on cars that already have a COP system

BAS = boost a spark, device kennebell makes to raise the voltage to the coil and thus more ignition power.

there's a couple of writeups on the .org site, you'll have to search as i can't post that link, but essentially since the aem ems has outputs that it doesn't need(like egr, and other stock sensors), you can use those pins to run other coils(up to 5), you just leave the stock distributor in, rewire coils 1-4(1 being the wire that goes to the stock coil, the other 3 can be seen on aem's wiring manual), there's a wizard you may have to download and some settings to change on the ems for when you change to cop though.

I'd never go with a coil-on-plug setup unless I was revving the piss out of the motor, like 9k+. Or if you're having spark issues, like blow out. But there are a few options I'd use before I'd go through the hassle of COP.

Wow, that's quite a little write up. That makes a lot of sense if I ever do plan on going with a COP setup.

That's true, it's really not worth it unless you want the absolute best ignition system possible, or you need it because of high boost blow out or high horsepower.
