hey all i was researching KA-T stuff and found a picture of a ka24det in an s14 and it vaguely looked like there was no distributor and in its place was a CAS similiar to that of an SR??? anybody have any thoughts, or has anyone seen this type of conversion before? thanks in advance and yes i searched to no avail!

Requires a standalone ecu, like AEM EMS. The coils are probably from a CBR. I don't see the benefit personally. Was the S14 burgandy? If so it's Ivans from AMS.

Or you could use SR20DET running hardware... Less the CAS it self, but pull out the optical disc and swap it into the KA distributor (basically turning it into a CAS), then reprogram the ECU with KA maps.

Not really that hard to do, most of the sensors have the same connector or thread size.

No need for a full standalone EMS though.

Or for the full DIY job, all variants of MegaSquirt (running extra) can do 4 cylinder sequential ignition (COP, CNP, etc).

I guess I should have said, unless you're going with a standalone, it's not worth it. Why swap all the SR stuff in at all? There isn't any benefit. To me that would be a waste of money entirely.

There are several guys making over 500whp with the factory distributor. Spend money where it makes the most power imho.

Cool factor, bragging rights, maybe already have the parts? I donno.

I personally don't care for my distributor, but I've just been lazy on setting up my coils... Even though my stock ignition system is in good shape and works quite well.
I need to get rid of it though, because I can't easily get parts for it.

I guess if you wanna change something for the sake of change...

I'm a big proponent of, "if it aint broke, don't f*** with it".

Just looking into it I don't even have a ka right now but I am going to yank the one out of my Altima for my dune buggy and was just researching options! I saw that picture and just thought it was cool! Plus I hate plug wires and I hate how the distributor is right in front of the turbo!
