OKay the other day I failed emissions, I had falied on HC and CO numbers. just barely though. I printed some pages out of my FSM I have on the computer and I went out today and pulled codes. I got a 33 and a 34 code. I figured the 33 after doing some searching and whatnot on here about my emissions woes. checked wiring for continuity and it's good. did the O2 meter in mode 2 and the CEL stayed on for the most part. It turned off a couple times but not the 5 times on 10 seconds it's supposed to. So that's dead. Now the 34 code is for the knock sensor. I check continuity to the ECU and it's good from the connector. I checked continuity to ground coming off the knock sensor subharness and got nothing so I figure the knock sensor is bad. Now my question is this. If I go and change my O2 sensor (I can go pick on up at the local auto zone) will the bad knock sensor still cause my car to fail emissions? I'm probably going to have to order a knock sensor so it will be a few days before I get it and can install it. I only have 15 days to resmog my car before I eat that 39.50. Will replacing the O2 sensor get me back within spec to pass and then when I get the knock sensor get the rest of what ever driveability issues that causes back? I'm guessing the bad knock sensor is just cutting timing at higher rpms? or is it always cutting timing? I know at full throttle the car seems to fall on it's face, and does not pull to redline at all. thoughts?
