I normally like figuring stuff out on my own, but I think there might be something simple here that I'm missing. Obligatory information: 1992 240SX. S14 KA24DE.

I've had a long saga with this car that I won't get into here, other than to say that the last time I had it running, I had the original engine installed, and the only code I got was for the EGR. Suffice it to say that the factory engine is dead, so I installed a S14 KA24DE.

I searched quite a bit, and one of the things I saw some varying information about was the knock sensor. Some threads said to swap it, others made no mention of it. Tonight I saw an old thread about the knock sensor harness failing, so I'll check that. Basically, the original knock sensor for the car was cracked, so I left the S14 one on the engine when I swapped it.

I took it for a test drive tonight after swapping the engine. It drove fine for a little while, the all of the sudden, it started stumbling and cutting out. It threw a code, so I limped it home and got 33 and 34.

So... here's the question: would leaving a S14 knock sensor on a S13 cause it to throw code 34, and if it throws code 34, will that cause it to miss, stumble, and cut out?

Also, code 33 would most likely indicate a failed oxygen sensor, correct? Would this code have anything to do with the stumbling?

Additional information, in case it matters. I completed an emissions delete. IACV remained hooked up, as did PCV. The only remaining vacuum lines are for the FPR and brake booster. The car ran like a scalded dog when I first got it running. It continued to run strong until it threw the code. After I cleared the codes, it ran strong again. This leads me to believe the problem is in the wiring or one of the sensors, rather than the timing.

Any information would be appreciated.

Sorry to pull up and old thread but I am having these same problems. My story is just like this as i swapped in an s14 engine without changing knock sensor. Although I am not getting the code 33 for oxygen sensor, my guess is mine is not missing as bad.

I am trying to finish a 1995 S14 engine swap onto a 1991 S13 this week but I am having some problems finding accurate information. What exactly did you do to your engine to make it run ? Any advice you have would be appreciated.

I created that thread to see if I could get some help on fixing the problem.

What I did is kind of fuzzy at this point, so I can't say much for sure.

If memory serves, I replaced the O2 sensor and it took care of that code. After that, I kept getting 32 and 34. I was still trying to fix it up to the point I sold the car. The kid that got it had it wrecked within a month or two, so it became a moot point. I got the engine back out of the car for a different chassis, though.

I halfway suspect that the wiring on the car was shot. I bought a whole harness from another car that I'm going to go through and totally check before I install it. I figure if I know for sure the wiring is good, then the only things left would be sensors and the ECU. Sorry I can't be more help for your problems, but I couldn't even get mine fixed. Good luck.
