I searched and found P0021 related topics but still like to ask here.
Over 10 years this is the first time I got a code. Last Friday on highway, Service Engine Soon light came on but no difference at all when driving. Scanner showed P0021. Resetted it. Ovr the weekend it didn't come back. Today on highway SES light came back on, still no difference I could feel. Scanner showed P0011.

From online search, there are four possible causes:

1. Incorrect camshaft timing
2. Wiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system
3. Continuous oil flow to VCT piston chamber
4. Failed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)

Is it easy to check or replace each one of them? I can only do easy job on cars. I will probably bring it to dealer and pay them, but want to ask first.

Thanks for any advice

Do you get P1140 and P1145 in addition to these codes? Check the IVT sensor wiring harnesses, make sure they are secure - see page EC-524 of the factory service manual for the harness locations.

No. One day I got P0021 and then I got P0011, that is all I got. I will checkIVT as you said.
Thanks for your reply.

I happened to read some online articles about low engine oil causing the same error. checked my engine oil and it was very low, nothing can be seen on the dipstick. I added oil in. Almost a month these codes never showed up. No matter with or without code, the car drives the same.

Don't under stand why Check Engine Oil light does not come on but Code does.

There is no check engine oil light, that oil can light is for low oil pressure. If you ever see it constantly lit, shut the engine off as soon as possible (preferably immediately) and check the oil level.

I have never seen the oil can light on after I bought it. That's why I couldn't understand this time, no oil on the dipstick and no oil can light on either.

There is still oil in the sump even if it's not even on the dipstick. Only when you have no or next to no oil (or some other circumstances such as a worn/dead oil pump or extremely worn engine, which are extremely rare) would you lose oil pressure and the light illuminate.

I'd suggest to check your oil level every time you get gas, and try to approximate how fast your oil is burning. If it's excessive (greater than 1 quart every 1000 miles), check if your power valve screws are still present and change your PCV valve. Perhaps switch to a high mileage oil in the same grade of your current oil as well. Check for leaks too.

Thanks for the advice. I work on cars for some small and easy things. How long do you "guesstimate" it would take for an "average" person like me to perform that job?

It should take several hours if you go slow and take your time. It really is not a difficult task, just a lot of things to unbolt and move out of the way.
