Code expert please!

I have been trying to read the codes from the computer and I'm not getting the right code sequences that the directions specify. when I turn the control clockwise to the read position, both red and green lights flash at the same time. first three red and green, then four red and green then five, then three and then one green. What am I doing wrong, or am I not reading them the right way?

Code 31 (3 red and 1 green) will be the first and last code to show. The reason is because the computer wasn't getting a signal from the AC either because it was deleted or the car wasn't running.
