84 - Automatic transmission-to-Fuel Injection Communication Line.

I got this code after swapping form an auto to a 5 speed. Will a simple swap of a 5 speed ECU be able to remedy this code? or does it require some sort of extranous sensor and wiring? Also does it matter which 5 speed ECU I use as long as its an OBDII? Since the transmission is from an older S14' and mine is a 97'.

If you want to do the swap clean and not have any CEL. you'll need a 95 ECU for a 95, 96 for a 96, and 97-98 for a 97-98.

If you just want it to idle right then 96+ can use any year 96-98 ECU.

I'm aware that early 95's are OBDI, but assuming I dont run into any of those, shouldnt any late 95-98 5 speed ecu work? since theyre OBDII. Or is there differences that I'm unware of?

This is what a local 97 s14 tried using a 96 ecu.

"Found this pretty unknown info about obd2 ECU's. This is only if you care about turning off the CEL without pulling the light.

Its pretty impossible finding a 97-98 m/t ECU for people doing the 5-speed swap on their kouki s14. The alternative is finding a later 95' or 96' obd2 ECU and replacing the rear o2 sensor with a 96' 3-wire set up. These are the modifications needed to be done to the ECU harness.

I learned this the hard way, I thought my evap vcv and rear o2 sensor went bad so i replaced the parts then overpaid for an 97 m/t ECU. Paid alot of money for useless parts but at least I didn't have to get under the car soldering the rear o2 sensor wires."

So basically I would try and find a 97/98 ecu to be sure your cel won't be on..
