Code 55? What does this mean?

1993 J30 started running rough after about 5 minutes of driving this morning - like a cylinder wasn't firing. Huge plume of exhaust - I can almost watch the gas gauge move as it swills gas. Barely idles. Sometimes stalls when stopped.

Maybe it's a coincidence, but we drove in freezing rain last. While it ran fine, maybe it affected something?

Anyway, I performed the self diagnostic in the sticky thread and got code 55. This isn't listed in the code list. Anyone have an idea?

Thanks!

Ooops! I just discovered that code 55 means "no fault" Sorry.

Any advice on where to start on this problem would be appreciated.

If you had less than a half tank of fuel you may have taken on some water (Condensation).Theres a few products out there to mix the water up with the fuel.Heet comes to mind.

Changed the plugs and added two bottles of heet. It is a bit better, but still running rough. Idle is smooth, but it gets rough as soon as I hit the throttle.

What plugs did you install ??The J likes the oem spec NKG plugs only.the 3 dollar each plugs will give you trouble every time.Probably wouldn't hurt to run some BG44K through it as well. But be aware its advised to change the oil after running a tank of BG through !!Its some serious stuff !!Works like a charm to clean things out in the fuel system though.
