code 54 A/T signal

I have a manual trans so why is it giving me a automatic trans signal.Somebody please help me understand, and how to fix it. Can't clear it, it just comes back.

Was the car converted from an auto?

Also, what is the code on the side of the ECU? It's possible that if the ECU is an auto, and the chassis is for a manual, you would be tossing that code. The code means that the ECU can't communicate with the ATCU.

No i have been driving it like this for 2 years now , this is a first.and it also cuts out if I try to coast so I always have to be on the throttle

chances are you probably have an auto ecu if its throwing that code at you, i have an auto ecu in my sr20det now and i get code 54 as well, but it doesent bother me. as for the coasting issue ive heard that since your getting that code, the ecu is is trying to figure out what gear the transmission is in but since its a manual transmission somethings not in check. try pulling your ecu and reading what number it is, also try swapping a manual ecu into it and see what that does
