Whats up, this is my first time onethis forum. Looks great, identical to the rx7 one I frequent. Anyway I have a 95 240sx with 171,000 miles. I just bought it for about 6000 miles ago so I don't have any clue on its service history. The car had ran perfect for me the whole time till recently. My check engine light came on and I think I noticed a slight power loss. I unfortunately rode around with it like that for a couple of weeks. I tryed to start it earlier and it started but it was sputtering and eventally shut off. I started it again and it had a nasty idle, when I applied throttle it shut off. I did this a few times a now it wont start at all. I pulled the ECU and counted light blinks and got a 36 which is the EGRC-BPT valve/EGR transducer. I did a search and didn't see to much info. If anybody knows please also tell me the best place to buy what I need THANKS-----Casey

I am not sure your start/idle problem is related to the check engine light unless the egr is stuck open. with the car off try tapping on your egr valve with a small hammer. only TAP on it .DO NOT beat it sensless cause you could damage it. after you rap on it a couple times. try starting the car and see if its start/ idle quality is improved. if this helps your problem is probably carbon build up in the passage which has triggered the engine light. the engine light your getting is triggered by a temp sensor located in the egr passage. what it looks for is a increase in temp(extreme voltage drop from the sensor) at specific accel points. if it does not see substantial drop when expected it will trigger the light. typical cause of this is carbon build up in the egr passege or a burnt BPT hose(rubber hose between the bottom of the BPT and a steel tube just below the BPT has a hole burnt in it). If you have the carbon build up in the passage it is possible some of that carbon has became trapped between the pintel of the egr valve cause it to be slightly open and effecting your idle. If carbon build up is in fact your problem you will need to clean the passages. To do this remove the egr valve and if your car has them 4 large allen head screws in the intake runners of each cyl(one per cyl) remove those and soak the carbon with carb clean and let it sit a few mins then begin picking at it till you break it all away. depeneding on how bad your build up is this could be time consuming.

Sounds great but the only problem is that I'm not to sure were the EGR or BPT hoses are at. A breif discription of were these things are at would be awsome. I might just need a normal tune-up like spark plugs and fuel filter etc. Thanks again!!!!

they are gold saucer looking things at the rear of the intake manifold. one has 2 ports and one has only one. the one with one port is your egr valve. the other is your bpt.

this sounds exactly like an intake leak though, you need to check for disconnected/loose/cracked hoses along your intake, also check that the MAS is plugged in correctly (next to your air filter box on the intake)
