got code 34 detonation sensor, over winter storage? think it could be because of year old gas? or is it a problem with the circuit? also did the heated oxygen sensor test, the left side is good most of the time. and right side is running lean. and my cars a 1990 nissan 300zx TT

ok lets start off with a little bit of info:

1 when you say winter storage do you mean like 3 to 4 months or what
2 If year old gas is in the tank there will be problems especially with ethonal in gas these days
3 what mods have you done to the car or is the car bone stock?
4 is it detonating at idle or is it under load, which casued you to go into safety boost

With out knowing any of those questions im going to take a guess and say you have a boost leak somewhere. With these cars as old as they are our hoses get old and brittle which results in leaks everywhere, which i feel could be your problem

1. about 8 months in storage.
2. the gas in it is over year old, prob like year and half old to be exact
3. mods on it is test pipes, cat back, air filter, and mines ecu chip
4. it set the code when i was idling/revin it. i did ecu test about a year ago and always got code 55.

Well, drain the old gas and dispose of properly, see if that helps in the slightest. Another thing to check since it has been in storage, check the connectors, see if there is any corrosion for the detonation sensor as this may likely be the culprit. After all is done, reset the computer and see if the code is still there. Let us know the outcome.

yes you definitly need to drain the gas and run new gas through the system hopfully it didnt gum up anything from running the probably gel like gas through upon start up.

well, good thing theres less then 1/8 of gas. i think i'm gonna just run all of it out. and put some fresh gas in. as for the detonation sensor, theres only 1 connector that i could clean right? the other is under the upper and lower intake manifold.

The actual det sensor is below the lower intake plenum, that is gonna be impossible to get to without taking a bunch of stuff apart. The connector that you are looking for is in the open between the firewall and plenum, it will look like the same connector as the VTC solinoid connector. just look for the connector and follow it as it sould go toward the center of the engine. If you find one that goes to the valve cover, that is not it. It should be two prong and honestly just use electrical connector cleaner or wd40, spray that in the connector let it soak for a few min, then find a very small flat head screw driver and scrape off as much green crap that may be corroded on there.

Usually the sensor doesn't go bad, it's usually the wiring between the actually harness and the sensor that goes bad. The sensor usually breaks apart, but sometimes it goes bad, just not often. If you need to after you clean it, you may need to push the female part of the prong closer together so the male section has a good solid connection. I know I saw a write up somewhere on the net, maybe someone has it in their archives and can post it up, it even has pictures!!

Keep us updated!!

what he said about cleaning but be sure to put a good amount of dieletic grease in the connect before putting it back to gether also dont be surprised if the car doesnt starting acting right immediatly after the new gas, give it a few mins witht the new stuff.

I think adding some seafoam along with the new gas, it should help along anything that has gotten varnished from the old stuff.
