Hello NICO,

My car have been accelerating slow and poorly so i took my car to the dealership to flush my transmission fluid (since the car have been seating for 8 yrs. I assume the fluid isn't good any more).... that was my plan anyways, but my car still accelerate poorly and shift late.... I also have an exhaust leak (kinda loud and annoying).... so i figured i pull the codes....

I just pulled some codes from my '94 Q45a, the codes are

33 - Heated Oxygen Sensor

34 - Knock Sensor

I called the dealership to ask how many O2 and knock sensor's i have and they told me that I have 4 o2's ($230ea) and may have 2 knock sensor ($190ea).... I was wondering if someone can tell me where exactly they are located and is replacing them are easy?? and do i need to replace all 4 o2 and 2 knocks?? plz help.... also i do have an exhaust leak would that through off the codes???

p.s. i have used the search but only to find out they point out to other 240's and other nissan/infiniti vehicles..... kno

90-95 Q only have 2 - O2 sensors and 2 KS and a harness. I'm sure the expert tech will find hundreds [thousands] of dollars of rubber hoses needing replacement.

What have you been spending the $2,200 per year [M&R budget] on just tires and brakes

/\ /\ /\ hehe... i just bought the car in august 08.. the car was seating for 8 yrs (what the previous owner said, and from the odometer on the title til the date of purchased, the car only had 60 miles or less)....

i took in consideration that the fuel was bad so i pumped out all or most of the bad varnished that was left behind, and then replaced the fuel filter, oil and oil filter, took off the the upper plenum since the injectors was prolly clogged got that sonic clean from a friend that works with fuel injection systems, also replaced all spark plugged with oem specs ngk's, and just changed the transmission fluid (flush) at the infiniti dealership today 12/04/08...

I am just taking it one step at a time since cash is low and living in Michigan (yes its a struggling state at this time), so work and money is limited.... i don't beat on this beauty or any of my car(s) that i had in the past, this is my gem...... I assuming that since the car is seating for so long and the codes 33 & 34 came up I should replace the o2 first and go from there... will check the FSM and go from there..... let me know if you guys (maxnix & Q45tech) have any more suggestions for a noob NICO member....

thanks,Mitchell

Just quoted $1800.00 for my knock sensors and earlier had the O2 sensors replaced for about $850.Don't ask about the MAF or cross-member/bushings, etc etc...you'll need in increase the Vicodin dosage.

the knock sensor are below the upper plenum so thats why the price is so high... since i took off the plenum like 5-6 times for the injectors and leaking o-rings i figured and timed myself on taking it off cleanly and throughly in about 45min, and 30 min to put it back together, you just have to get your elbows greasy a little bit, but the o2 sensors thats a new one for me.. its goiong to a lot hard since it winter and cold as hell in michigan so finding a garage is my priority to change both of them.....

now you mention about the MAF or cross-member/bushings, etc etc.... is there something i should know about this?? Thanks on the heads up on the Vicodin.... hehehe....

Both {2} oxygen sensors can be purchased for a grand total of $100 delivered to your door from http://www.sparkplugs.com ... excellent service and they have the correct factory part {NTK} that includes the correct connectors for a plug and play installation......to get the same oxygen sensors from your local infiniti dealer parts dept would be close to 400-450, even Joe isnt competitive on these parts.

LOL, if you've taken the plenum off 5-6 times, you're no Q45 noob!

The MAF on the early Q45 usually fails. Either the crimped wires on the connector come loose, or the solder joints on the internal circuit board get brittle and fail. MAF is expensive new, $400-500, and used ones are all getting pretty old.

Alexander might be referring to the rear subframe bushings, which are hard to replace - you have to drop the entire subframe, burn out the old bushings, etc.

The point is that this car is expensive to maintain. You're lucky to be able to do your own work.

How is the ACTSUS working? If you need any help with it, be sure to contact Keith Bowers at http://www.activesuspensionsystems.com

Other than the $8,000 Active suspension which rarely cost over $4,000 to repair properly, the Q45 is no more expensive to maintain properly over 15 years than any other 4,000+ pound V8 1994 import car. The Nissan transmission may be a little less robust than the Lexus but other things effectively wash...........timing belts, coils and plug wires, distributers, starters, PS pumps, racks all add up on the other brands.

At least the Nissan transmission is $1,000 less expensive than the other brands.
