Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and I read the other postings, but I couldn't find the whole answer to my question, so anyone with any inside - PLEASE HELP! The engine check light came on the dash of my maxima 95' so I retrieved the codes 32 and 34. Knock Sensor (34) - I figured I need a new sensor so i already ordered one on Ebay. (32) EGR insufficient or excessive flow - so I tested the system by running the engine at ideal and checked if the EGR valve stem moves when I run up the engine between 2000-4000 RPM and it did, which should indicate that the system works properly, right? Any ideas what I should do next? Also, I not sure if its related to the problem, but when I start the car in the morning and turn the heater on, it initially smells like gas coming out of the vents and after few minutes it goes a way. Over all the car runs fine and beside the engine light coming on. Thanx

Welcome to NICO.

You are doing correctly by replacing the knock sensor. The EGR flow code is most likely being caused by a restricted pipe: either the one coming off the exhaust manifold, or most likely, the one going from the EGR valve to the rear of the intake manifold.

Sounds like the EGR valve passed one of the tests but I thinkit is supposed to hold vacuum pressure for a certain time periodalso.

You should direct your attention to the fuel smell ASAP

My 98 would leak fuel when it was cold upon start up but thenit would quit. My mechanic changed the fuel filter and it quitleaking. Never could figure out why it leaked.

Is there enough gas to see on the driveway?

I appreciate all the input. I did recheck that EGR valve and it seems that the membrane moves when I add gas however when I do hold it at 2000-4000 RPM the membrane goes up but then returns back down after few seconds, so I think I'll have to take the EGR valve out and do a component check. Should I expect to change the EGR valve or should there be other things I should be looking for? Also, I did change the fuel filter and I haven't really smelled any fuel lately, however I'm not sure if it's gone completely. I haven't seen any fuel on the driveway thou, so I don't think the leak is that significant. Is there a way to check the fuel system for leaks without taking it to the shop?

The EGR valve is supposed to move similiar to what you are describing

As far as the fuel is concerned, I would watch it for a whileunless you have some equipment to see if it will hold the required PSI
