2000 I30 has code MIL 1320. New NGK plugs just put in a month ago. Also, Front 02 Bank 1 sensor replaced recently. Maybe a bad coil causing engine light to just come on? Is there an easy way to check each coil to see if one is bad? Has been running rough at first start up but OK after warmed up. Maybe a bit sluggish, too.Thanks. Appreciate all your help.

Check your coils, there was a TSB released regarding ingnition coils on the 2000-2001's, and the new coils are marked with a grey dot on the top.

Thanks!!You are correct. I did find that TSB. I don't believe that the coils have been changed out as I've had the vehicle for all but the first 27,000K miles. I suppose the dealer will be able to pull up a VIN service record as to what has been replaced. I have had the vehicle at the dealer before but they have never mentioned any service/replacement of the coils. If you don't ask about service bulletins, aren't they suppose to mention it?

I spoke to the service manager yesterday(Friday) before they closed. He didn't mention a service bulletin. He did tell me to reset the MIL and it may come back with a different code that may identify which coil(s) are causing the light to come on. As it stands right now, P1320 (Ignition Signal Primary)means replacing them all, is what he told me. If needed, I will be ordering them from Everything Infiniti as they are much less money(around $56 a piece) Still alot of money though. Everything Infiniti has been very good as I have bought 02 sensors from them and they have been easy and quick to order from.

If they are still the original coils, will the dealer replace them for free? Does the milage matter? I have 124,000k on this car. Is the grey dot on the coils visible without unhooking the electrical plug? I recently replaced the plugs and don't remember seeing any markings.

Thanks alot. You guys are a great resource!

Dealers will not mention TSB's unless you have a problem. Even then, they probably will not mention it as a TSB is normally for their use as a diagnostic means to fix a common problem.

Since you are out of warranty, the dealer will not fix it for free unless it is a true recall.

Yes, the dot should be plainly visible on the top of the coil.

Thanks for your help.I've turned off the Check Engine light and the light hasn't come back after driving it for about a week or more. The 1320 code was the only one that came up as a problem. Nothing else.

It still has a very cold start in that it runs rough for the 1st 1/2 mile. Then it seems to warm up and runs fine. The plugs are new.The front heated 02 bank 1 sensor is new, also.

If the coils really need replacing, I would think the check engine light would come back on right away after clearing the code and that hasn't happened(at least yet) so maybe something else has caused the 1320 code to come up and is making for the rough run, too. Also, if the coils are bad, wouldn't they maybe make for a constant rough run?

What else could be making for this rough run from start up?

Thanks in advance!!!
