Hello, (yes I've searched but can't find an answer)

I have an 5 Sp 89 240sxDuring the winter my ECU indicated a problem with the Engine Temperature Sensor (AKA Code 13). Being that it is HOT and tough in the great outdoors I have chosen to deal with that sensor now.

Over the past while my Sensor consistantly reads at Half way and varies very slightly. It will immediately indicate half way despite the car having sat for long periods of time and I do not feel it is reading correctly. I do not want my car to overheat as I already know my radiator is less than ideal. If it is running too hot I need to know the temperature is being read correctly.

I have changed the sensor but have seen no change in the gauge and don't feel this has solved my problem. I will check the codes again this weekend, however, is there is something else I should do regarding code 13?

Please keep it simple...I'm no mechanic :D

Otherwise..Happy Weekend! My car is Falling Apart! ARGH

First of all, you have to sensors. The one that you replaced is probably the one that feeds the ECU. The 2nd sensor just feeds that gauge. Now, that gauge on the other hand, is not accurate for shat. In order for that thing to rise, the engine has to get well over 200 deg F.

But, if your ECU was throwing that code, you probably did replace the correct sensor. If you're unsure, you can download a copy of the FSM @ http://www.zeroyon.com and follow the instructions for testing out both sensors.

Thank you and thank you for the link.

I have an 89. There doesn't seem to be an available download for that car.

Should I be concerned with the second sensor? Would it even read half way at all if it wasn't working correctly?

did it showed a code 13 after u change the sensor/reset the ECU/ECM? If so, you'll have to check the wiring, since u already replaced it w/ another sensor.

mine's also read in the middle, despite a leak @ the seam where the aluminum core meets the plastic endtank near the battery.

I agree w/ Jerome that the gauge sux when it came to this.

It almost always reads in the middle B4 & after I changed out my radiator.

Just get the rad replaced asap if u know that it is bad.

my 90 240 is also showing this code. Could this code cause the car not to start randomly?

thanksAdam

"The ECU detected an ope or shorted circuit. *an abnormally high or low output voltage ins entered.)"

Also "check for continuity between engine temperature sensor terminal B and ECU terminals 21 and 29. Continuity should exist."

If thats OKChack continuity between terminals A and 16, Continuity should exist

Thats from ALLDATA.

here's a pic of what I am talking about http://sirwarrior.kicks-***.org/s13/code13.jpg

Hope that helps
