So tell us did you change the filter form the top or the bottom as specified by the manual?

Is it also necessary to change the oil filter from underneath on the FGY33? The minimum wage pit monkeys insist it's easier to do topside...

And that is why they are minimum wage pit monkeys.

It is really good for an owner to have someone familiar with a FGY33 or G50, Y34, Y50 or F50 to change the oil and filter and crush washer which you supply so they can observe the underside and point out failing or soon to be failing components.

Does a topside oil filter change on an FGY33 risk certain damage? At least I can tell them to be careful to watch for X next time...

In the best case, frequent conncetions adn disconnections will wear the connections faster. With minimum wage pit monkeys, be prepared for worse. Have them do it correctly. It's kind of a vetting procedure for incompetent help.

Except for the few of you that still have the under-engine shield I'm not sure it saves the lube techs any time to change the oil filter from the top since most have a pit or lift to work under. They're more interested in selling you an air filter and will remove the air box lid without any thought, probably without disconnecting the MAF connector and tugging on the remaining length of the ECU harness and everything else connected to it in the process.

I change my own oil (on all 4-5 of my cars).
