I've been having occasional rough starts, occasional jerking or stalling. There is no loss of power, new fuel filter, MAF cleaned, fluids, clean ait filter. I finally got her to run a code again after a rough start, ran code 11, CAS. I've looked up past posts on resolving rough running issues and the CAS pops up here and there, any more detailed info? Is it just running CAS since it started hard or have you more experienced Qers heard of the CAS causing this problem? Any input appreciated.

Aha! The CAS connector can get iffy, just like the MAF connector. Pull it and clean it up and see what happens. The CAS also can fail eventually. I've replaced mine, although it just may have been dirty or a bad connector - was before I found NICO.

Start with disconecting CAS sensor and cleaning connections on harness plug and cas pins, reconnect and see if problem goes away.

MAF has been done about a week, just did CAS connector. Deleted MIL, started and ran, shut off. Turned the key to on position and did a self-diagnosis and got codes 11 and 12 for CAS and MAF, no MIL. Something fishy is going on here... I may change the air filter for kicks, doesn't look OEM but is new. I bought it with that filter so I'll change it. I guess I'll drive it a bit and see if cleaning the CAS helped any as far as the stutter or occasional stall. All the input I can get I'll take, and thanks to those first two fast responders.

Just to clarify, the service manual indicates that the CAS is under the VVT solenoid on the left-hand head. Right by the charcoal canister. I previously thought this to be the CPS. My service manual showed no CPS so are these the same? It's been a while since I played electrician so by far my weakest department is the electronics. When you drive nothing but carb'd cars it takes a bit to roll back into the big boy stuff.

CPS=CAS. I had the same confusion.

Crankshaft Position Sensor = Crankshaft Angle Sensor

Engine Control Unit = Engine Control Module

FPCU = FPCM

etc.

Remember CAS [cam angle sensor= which is ~= crank divided by 2] has 2 connectors on 90-93. A pigtail has a connector under top front decorative cover along with a connector on the CAS body.

All connections clean, no MIL and still won't rev past 2000rpm. It has to be something to do with the CAS since it was running ok until I messed with the connector. I do not want to throw parts here. I may do some other checks to be sure. Any way to get the computer off limp-home?

Supply the correct waveform signals and voltages from CAS and MAF is the only way to get out of limp mode.

The dielectric silicone is probably what's causing it. It ran normal except the problems stated until I added the compound on, being non-cunductive I'm pretty sure thats what finally pushed it all the way. I'm going to try getting all of it out and then advance the timing a smidge and see if this helps. Good thing I found a genuine Mitsubishi CAS for 160.00 wholesale. Half price, brand new. May be needing it.

Welp, I did it all, cleaned em', reset everything, no change. Runs great all the way to a whopping 2000 rpm. I ordered the replacement CAS, seems to be the only problem. The MAF is just peachy far as I can tell and same goes for the pump of fuelness. Pressure's good, no funny noises. We'll see if my hundred sixty dollar CAS does it. Rock Auto has 1 more Mitsubishi CAS in stock at that price, then it jumps to over 300, in case anyone else is interested. Guess we'll find out for sure in a week or so! Thanks for the help everyone!
