Since Infinity Ward totally dropped the ball with MW2, I'm sure a lot of us are looking forward to Treyarch's turn. Figured I would start a thread. A tiny bit of info to start the discussion...

I've written before about the potential of a Vietnam-era COD. Treyarch can really step-up here and develop something incredible.

Thoughts?

Why do those two always trade off every year? 'IW one year followed by activision and treyarch.'

No, they don't necessarily trade off. EA just has multiple developers handling the CoD franchise. There's actually a THIRD developer (not sure who) being brought on for the series as well, and they are expected to handle MW3.

I'm looking forward to CoD7 more than any previous CoD game simply because Vietnam is a particularly viable setting for a war shooter. It offers a huge variety of map settings, tactics, and technology. As fascinating as WWII is historically, as a videogame setting it just lacks the diversity and depth that Vietnam offers.

Bull sh*t.

I think IW has earned the right to develop the story line that they originally took a risk on and stook their neck out for. If another outside developer comes in and works on MW3 I will be very upset.

Treyarch can have the Call of Duty franchise but leave MW alone!

Dropped the ball? I disagree.

Anywho, I really hope it;s not Vietnam. Every other vietnam shooter has failed miserablly...

So I guess being the highest grossing game of all time is dropping the ball? I have yet to see a Vietnam game break even.

All of the dedicated server drama, console glitches, hidden game modes that should have been readily available, etc...

Yes, I would say the ball was dropped, at least compared to the perfection of COD4. Do I ignore all of the those minor faults? Of course. I love MW2. I play every day on both consoles. But I digress...

And I totally agree about previous Vietnam shooters. However, the possibilities of that era can't be ignored. So much potential, for both campaign and MP.

True dis.

Coming from playing every COD, I'd say that MW2 wasn't all it could have been. The guns aren't balanced and the maps suck. It just has a bunch of really cool f***ing guns and perks. That's the only thing that makes it fun as hell.

I still think your just bitter about IW sh*ting on the PC community. Why do you think the maps are bad? Because they didn't take place in Japan like COD5? The only guns that weren't balanced were the Akimbo Rangers/Model 1887s, and they made them much less affective.

As for the Vietnam shooter having potential...It is going to be similar to COD5 with wet jungle environments and flame throwers. But this time the US troops will now have inaccurate and unreliable first gen M16s.

Nah, I don't care about that anymore. I play MW2 on XBox every day, so it's not a "I'm a PC guy, Ihate everything XBox" Basically, I hate how you can use a submachine gun as a rifle and a rifle as a submachine gun. Just stuff like that. I think maybe it's harder to balance a multiplayer game using real modern weapons, maybe that's why so many companies do WWII shooters.

In a nutshell: the maps are either too open or too much of a cluster f***. I'm not saying they're all bad but most... not so great. Even Wasteland is bad, it has none of the flow of the original for some reason.

They should stop trying to make COD/MW be like EA Sports games and actually work on their games more instead of just coming up with cool ideas and throwing it all together so they can put it on a shelf.

While I would love a Vietnam based game to come out, even with all the weapons, technology, and battles fought, I really don't think that it has the same fan base as WWII does. It's like do you make a game based on WWI, or the Civil War. Yeah the technologies and weapons were much better in WWI (They used the first tanks, and we had planes then), the number of Civil War fanboi's out there would equate to a better game.

As far as the M16A1's are concerned, there are tons of other weapons that were introduced during Vietnam than most people give credit to. Do the research, you'll be surprised. Plus their's the whole tunnel warfare, booby traps, and the guerrilla tactics used throughout the conflict.

IMHO, MW2 rocks. I love the maps. Weapons are friggin sick. I can't think of many faults with the game personally... Maybe I'm just easy to please......Playing on the PS3 I've never had a glitch or problem online thankfully.

I"ll be buying and playing whatever setting the next one is in.
