A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Can anyone tell me if a clutch should go out on a person in alittle under 2yrs. from normal day to day driving?

Hard to tell really. How many miles? Was the car new when you got it? How much reaming did you do in it?

Yeah, we definitely need to know how many miles. Clutches aren't a matter of time, it's a matter of use. Do you do a lot of city driving or highway?

sorry for not telling you this info first. I was kind of mad when I posted this.

The car was new off the lot with 66 miles on it when I started the lease. In a time of two months under a year I have put 26,966miles on the odomiter. City driving is a factor. I don't do any racing with it, but there are the occational times that everyone has to giver a little. thx I hope this helps.

oh yeah the dealer tightened the clutch about 6months ago and the car has been back to them for oil changes atleast two or three times since. I would think that they would have caught something earlier then this.

would tightening the caught cause faster wear then normal?

The best translation I can get for what "tightening the clutch" would be is that they got rid of some slop in the pedal or cable, or just tightened down the fittings on the clutch assembly. I can't remember what sort of clutch setup a Spec has right now though... and I'm not sure any of those makes much sense. It sounds like a crock they come up with to keep you coming there.

At 27k, you should not need a new clutch with the conditions you describe. Generally, clutches last a good 60k if you know how to drive worth anything. I'm still on the stock clutch at 52k and 1000 of those miles were rather hard turbo miles, and I definitely don't drive nice all the time. I'm not in a Spec, but I suspect Nissan's clutch material didn't change much in the year between my car and the SE-R's release, not to mention that I've never heard of a Spec clutch giving out in 30k except for in extreme idiot usage.

That said, they're either lying or something else is up. I'd have another mechanic look at it and confirm, and if so, I'd ask him/her and your dealer what on earth could have caused what seems to be double-time wear.

Thanks for the replies I have good news I just heard from the shop and they said it was the transmission not the clutch. which is covered under warrenty.

My buddy had a '03 Spec V and had 20k+ miles on it w/ a lot of city driving and highway here and there. He always drove it hard(and I mean hard ) and the clutch was fine and never gave him any problems.
