First off, its a 92 240sx se with a KA24DE. When the car is running,it will not go into gear, but when its off it will go in. I first thought it was the synchros in the transmission (from searching and reading all the other problems), but now I've noticed that the clutch pedal will go down, but will not come up unless i put my foot under and pull it up. Now I think that it may just be my clutch and that I need to replace it.

Can anybody tell me what is wrong with it? Has anybody else had this problem?

If it is my clutch, any suggestions on which brand I should buy(might as well upgrade!)?

If its something wrong with my transmission that would cost just as much as to rebuild, then does somebody have a good transmission for sale?

THANK YOU.

If your pedal goes to the floor and you have to bring it back up with your foot, it sounds like either clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder is leaking. Check those two items first and replace as necessary.

when youre standing in front of the car, what is the "resevoir" on in the top right of the enging bay? mine says NABCO or something on it. anyway, i think that is my problem cause theres no fluid in it. what fluid goes in there (kind and type) ? and then i should try and find where its leaking and fix that.

sorry i dont have a manual.

The clutch master cylinder is in the very top right corner of the engine bay (it sounds like you found it). They take plain old DOT 3 brake fluid just like the master cyl. for your brakes. Clean off all the clutch fluid lines and the slave cylinder, then fill er up, get under the car, and have someone start pushing that clutch in and youll see where the fluid is leaking from. good luck

Also, clean under the clutch master cylinder (where you just added fluid) to see if any leaks out. If so, then you need to replace it. Its not hard, just a pain in the arse.

Edit:You will want to bleed your clutch when you are thru, or your pedal will still go to the floor and stay. There is a bleeder valve on the slave cylinder (bolted to the transmission that moves your shifter fork) and a bleeder valve on the portioning valve immediately before it, bolted to the passanger side frame under the car.

Good Luck!!

yea, the master cylinder is whats leaking. there are ''marks'' of fluid on both sides of the firewall. im guessing you had to replace it JNM240 because you say its a pain. how much were the part/s (any other parts needed or recommended to replace at the same time) ? thanks.
