I tried to search but found nothing specific on my problem.

I Have a 91' 240sx and recently got the clutch replaced, everything was running smooth for the first month or so. I started hearing what might be considered a grinding or buzzing noise whenever I try to shift the clutch into gear. When it is in gear it doesn't make a noise. It also smells like something is burning when I get out of the car. I'm kind of new to working on cars, but I did check my transmission fluid and it was full. What other problems could it be? Or what else can I do to diagnose the problem? Any answers or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

You may have a couple of problems, Your clutch master and slave may be the culprit for the grind when shifting into gear. If in fact the clutch master and slave check out ok some people have used synchromesh in there transmission and it improves the engagement of your slightly worn transmission. Check and see if there is any type of oil getting onto the exhaust. I hope this helps.

Ok, I was reading some other forums, going to check the small rod that connects the clutch master to the pedal of the car, and bleed the lines. I also am going to peel back my shift boot, to see if it is the slave cylinder. Hope I don't have to open the transmission.

I looked at my shift boot and transmission fluid is coming out the top there is no retainer for the top and the boot is in half. Could this be my problem?

I've heard something sort of like what you describe on a lot of Hardbody trucks, usually after a clutch change. What it turned out to be was the pilot bushing. Somebody apparently did not know that you were not supposed to lubricate the pilot bushing on these before assembly. The bushing is a powdered brass or bronze type material with the lubricant built in and it would burn off and glaze over. This in turn would cause a loud groaning noise with a vibration when you clutched the vehicle. This is the way it was explained to me. It's been a while since I have worked on 240's and I don't remember all the details. It will also sometimes make it hard to shift, like the clutch is not fully disengaging, but not always. I hope this helps.

wow, i just had a new clutch installed when i got my SR motor and 5 speed conversion, and well i'll have my clutch pedal to the floor and shift from 1st to second, and it'lll totally grind, and not want to shift, and i double check to make sure my foot won't go down any more, and it buzz grinds again when i try to put it in gear again, secondly the stick shift lever has a free range up and down(vertical) range, as in its not attatched.. what gives>?

sounds like there is air in the clutch lines. the s13 s14 can be hard to bleed all the air from.. i also had the shifter problem in my rb because the shifter was from my ka transmission. try bleeding the system (it may take forever), i use a vacuum bleeder for this at work. and see if its the correct shifter in the trans. the boot missing is the least of your worries right now in my opinion, because you can probally make one or buy one cheap.
