I have an 89 240sx with 143k miles. Bought it off a friend a few months ago. Anyway, lately I've run into two problems:
First, my clutch has a way of losing pressure. Usually happens when I either haven't driven for a few hours or I've been in fifth gear for a while. I go to use it and there's little/no pressure and it doesn't come all the way up. If I lift it and pump it for a while it gets pressure back eventually, but it's still just a temp fix.
Second, my reverse is out. I took a trip out of town a couple weeks ago and when I made it to town my clutch completely lost pressure. So I'm stopped dead in traffic because I can't shift from neutral. After a while I finally got some pressure and I was able to go but I heard the gears scratch a few times. Sounded kinda bad. Now I can't shift into reverse. The shifter just doesn't go into that gear.
Anyway, my clutch pedal only comes up halfway now and I feel like the clutch kind of snaps everytime I release the pedal, so I have to be easy with it.
I've been checking the fluid and there's no leak, so I'm assuming my master cylinder's probably going out, but I'm not 100%. As for not being able to shift into reverse, no idea but I'm hoping my transmission isn't failing.
I was just wondering if someone could help out, maybe suggest a possible fix. I'm not too car savvy so bear with me.
Thanks.
