I got a 1990 240sx fastback with 147k miles on it last week, and it was fine. but this week something is wrong with my clutch. it seems that it doesn't disengage all the way when I push the pedal in, 'cause when I shift I can feel the gears hit through the stick. they don't grind, but I can feel them clash. after I drive my car around for a while, the problem goes away. anybody have any idea what's going on?

A car that does not like to go in gear when it is cold is usually a result of a worn out transmission. You can always check the slave and make sure that the clutch is releasing all the way.

yeah, it's got a lot of miles on it. I'd like to get a new transmission. the synchro's for first gear are messed up too. it makes an anoying whirring sound in first.

Try bleeding the clutch system, there might be air in your lines.

would syncros be the reason why reverse is so noisy? and my fifth gear makes a low sounding whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr?

no.... I think reverse makes that wierd sound, as it does in all cars, because it has to go through another gear. at least I think. and I dunno about the 5th gear whir.

Reverse whines because of the way the gear is cut.
