So, help me sift through the comp. clutch thing. I'm not allowed to do much engine work in the class I race in and i am replacing the clutch in my spare engine trans unit. Because I'm running a single cam engine 2 over and 2.5 headers. are the higher spec clutches going to really effect the performace. is there a real difference in an engine without much added HP or this just overkill?stage one?Stage two?what's this really mean?what's your opinionden

For what this is worth ,I havnt used comp clutches in my car yet ,but the downshifts envolved in trackdays I do just destroys my clutch disc in about 6- 2 hour track days .The speed up of the disc on downshift just slings the lining off.The better the clutch you can afford ,the happier you will be.I dont think youll be disappointed with overkill.I plan to do a good clutch before the 08 season starts.

You should really look into these if you want something you will not destroy.

Are you talkin HPDE's or auto-x? And are you suggesting that if I par take in either of these events, with a "better" clutch I'll be better off? And if your clutch disk gets destroyed as you say, how can you tell?

Thanks in Advance

I just got an ACT Heavy Duty Street Setup on my stock KA. And I am personally impressed with it. It will hold up to 290 FTLBs. I love the pedal feel. It is semi-light, with a quick yet smooth engagement. Perfect for street, but will still deliver the quick grab you need at the track.

A lot of it really depends on how you handle the clutch and what type of competition you do.

I autoX and do HPDE's / Time trials. In my opinion the AutoX's are tougher on a clutch ( launches) than downshifts on the track. I do not use the transmission to brake the car, double clutch a lot.

Many people I know run stock clutches on track cars and AutoX cars without issue.

Drag racing--I do not know.

I run a SPEC Stage 2 clutch on a CA18det.

15-18 AutoX days and 8-12 track days a year. 3 years old.

PS --since you are from NH, I suggest looking into http://www.COMSCC.com for track days and TT's --NH based club.
