Hey my 96 still rides on its stock clutch and its gonna go out soon. I'm runnin i/h/e/p basically bolt ons. Which clutch set should I get? SPEC, ACT, centerforce, or clutch masters? I want something that engages quickly, smoothness'd be a plus, something taht's a street/track combo. I just want some testimonials on these clutchs, thanks.

I'm currently running a Centerforce Stage II and it has no problems at all. I've heard nothing but good things about ACT also, they're a little more expensive though.

I'd stick with an organic disc. You won't need more than a stock clutch, but if you must have one, keep it organic. More exotic materials can start getting unstreetable. Ceramic discs wear through metal quickly. Carbon is overkill. Kevlar is okay, but can melt with roadcourse use. I'd be looking for long term use and reliability rather than gripping power. Unless you are running forced induction or NOS, chances are, you won't be making enough torque to actually need a clutch that grips better.

I reccomend the SPEC Stage 2, it engages quick, just barely let out on the pedal, and it grabs and go's. The clutch pedal feels nice, it's not feather light but it's not heavy, it's a little heavier than stock. I've driven on the ACT street/strip feels about the same I think the SPEC grabs better, pedal is a bit lighter, and the SPEC is cheaper, the Centerforce Stage 2, personally I hate, Our other shop car has the Centerforce stage 2 on it, it's a 98 with 90000 miles, the clutch is soft as hell, beyond feather light, after driving it and getting into mine, I'm barking my tires in the first 3 gears trying to get used to mine again. I engages, doesn't grab, I like it when the clutch grabs, and you know it's gonna hold, the Centerforce just seems like it's waiting to give.I had the Stage 2 on my 240 for over 30000 miles, driving it harder than anyone else probably ever would doing 6000 rpm clutch dumps at least once a day, and sitting in stop and go traffic every day, and still when I replaced it, it was still working, I upgraded just to try out the stage 3.From the sound of it, a stage 2 seems like it would be good for you.

We have them if you want themhttp://www.e-emotorsports.com/...t.htm

Well, I agree with what bigE says, but I dont really recommend anything higher than a stage 1. Like C-Kwik says, if you're not FORCED, you dont put out enough torque to need something too exotic/high performance. I've had the SPEC stage 1 on my car for about 3 months now, all I can say is, it doesnt like soft launches. It seems to struggle if you launch below 1500 (my usual launch since I'm more inclined to smooth daily driving). But when I let her loose around 2000-2500 and above, you'd know why its a racing clutch to begin with. I tried some drifts and burnouts with it last week I think, didnt even begin to wear out on me~! The only change I noticed was that the clutch seems to engage even more crisp when you abuse/use it....if you need anymore testimonies just ask`!

Rated R, that Stage 2 took a beating, i got it because I wanted a little more bite than stock, it definitely doesn't like soft launches, but I abused the hell out of it just to see how well it held up, and after 30000 miles of 6000 clutch drops, and plenty of drifting, it still engaged the same way it did after I broke it in, in my opinion, SPEC clutches are awesome clutches, but the stage 3, I definitely wouldn't reccomend for the daily driver that sits in traffic alot, I'm finding that out now, doesn't like stop and go.

i highly recommend a stage 3 clutch from exedy but clutch net and clutch master have really good clutches too. dont trust anything other than those 3 brands.
