no offense but how did you and someone else take 6 hours on that job? was that your first car repair ever?Dookie wrote:Took me and a friend about 6hr total to do the job without air tools. Putting the transmission back on is the hardest thing about the job. Taking the flywheel off is tricky, but my chiltons manual told me how to do it easily.
We like to do the job at night with little to no daylight, but youre right, I think it might have taken 4-5, I really wasnt keeping time. I had to pull the flywheel off myself, which sucked, kept jamming my hand into something if the wrench slipped, then the flywheel fell on my chest, flat part first though. That hurt.fatboy wrote:no offense but how did you and someone else take 6 hours on that job? was that your first car repair ever?
so you must have had air tools, thats cheating!i didnt, had a horrible lighting, and we didnt have swivel head wrenches for the bolts against the firewall, luckily my friend had tiny handsfatboy wrote:when i did my clutch, i did it at work. granted i had all the proper equipment and i work on cars for a living. it took me 28 minutes (i timed myself) from time of disconnecting battery cable to starting it back up to drive
a flywheel/flexplate holder is real nice to have. or you can wedge a prybar in your flywheel574-240sx wrote:Yes you can do it. you may need a large socket set to get on the crank while you take off the flywheel bolts. I learned to take my trans out in under 30 minutes when I had to take it out 3 times in a week.
