I have a Celica '93 that does not want to start. Since the car is parked on an inclined my friend managed to start it in reverse. Now I am looking for information on how to start the car.

Does anyone know how to start the car when it has ignition problems? I know an option is to hot wire the car but I know there's another way. The car is a piece of junk but I still like it. I will post a picture of the car later on.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Get it in N get it rolling around 10-15 MPH hold the clutch put it into "2" and let off the clutch and it should start.

What CodeRed said will work. If you don't want to try starting a moving vehicle, you can short the starter solenoid with a screwdriver. Make DAMN sure the car is in Neutral and the parking brake is on/wheels are chocked when you do this. also, watch to make sure no clothing or body parts are in the way of moving parts (like the alternator) when you do this.

Yep, it works. It's called compression starting, and you can ONLY do it with a manual transmission (one more reason they're superior! hehehe). I've had to do it before, when the battery on one of my cars died and we didn't have jumper cables.

Fortunately, in Seattle, there is NO shortage of hills...
