Hello All,

So my clutch started slipping and I am a little puzzled by it. Its a SZ Sport Street Clutch that has less than 5,000 miles on it when it started to slip. I have bolt on mods and running about 16 lbs of boost. My Mustang Dyno results- 364hp and 383tq. Shouldn't this clutch be able to handle this. Any suggestions on an upgrade?

It should handle what you are putting down, have you replaced the rear main seal, and the trans seals? could be slipping cause by fluid on the disk.

Yes, the rear main and trans seals were done when the clutch was installed.

I don't know man, could be an evil joke by someone, did you have your FW machined when you put the new clutch on? Due to the step in the FW if it is even ever so slightly out of spec (which a machine shop should have checked before and after machining) it will lead to slippage problems.

That's a good question. Supposedly the FW was machined but you never know. Any suggestions? Mabey new flywheel? Or mabey if were gonna drop the transmission might as well due a more beefier clutch.

But even if it was machined, if the tolerance wasn't confirmed, it could have been taken down too much. If you are getting a new clutch and have the fund for a FW I'd surely go for one. Don't automatically go for a light weight unit either, make sure its what you want because the car will behave differently with a LWFW vs a factory weighted one.

Thanks for the advice. I will probably go with the factory weighted FW, I think it would better suit my needs.

No problem, I will say this though; my Z is up there in the mods department running HKS 2530 (equivalent to the Z1 675s) with a LWFW and I have had no problem driving it in stop and go traffic, for daily fun and rev-happiness the LWFW is better IMO. Just a bit of FYI for you.

Any good suggestions on a clutch/flywheel combo. Something that could handle at least 500hp/500tq in case i decide to upgrade to bigger turbo's in the future.

I'm running a chormoly LW FW from a driveline fab shop in Cali, forgert what its called since I bought it years ago and a SZ Max Street Clutch (700lbs clamping force) I love the combo but all in it cost me around $700. A DXD/Southbend X Series Stg 1 can be had for ~$400 and a chromolly one piece LWFW for another 150-200. If you want quality you aren't going to spend less than $600 unless you find a special deal. Call up DXD and Specialty Z, see if they have any items that they can cut you a deal on. Both companies have outstanding customer service and will help you find what you need.
