the clutch on my rb20 is slipping worse and worse as i drive it..... it started out when i left in first gear and the tires spun pretty bad (NOT RIDING THE CLUTCH AT ALL) it smelt like roasted clutch fluid. Since it has persisted to slip worse under high loads and now slips under moderate load. It's parked til i get a new clutch in it. But for some reason the clutch pedal has become noticeabley more stiff. Anybody know why the pedal would suddenly get more stiff? (almost twice as hard to press!).

Do you have fluid in your master cylinder reservoir? I'm thinking your master cylinder is not functioning properly because that would make YOU have to generate all the pressure to move the slave cylinder, which would make the pedal feel stiff. If the clutch isn't disengaging completely while you are shifting, it could be wearing quickly. Check to see that the slave is moving completely when someone pushes the clutch pedal in.

It still shifts through every gear very smoothely and doesn't grind at all. It just slips hella bad as soon as a good load is put on it. Usually around 4-5k.... then free-revs. I'm gonna probly just replace the master for the benefit of the doubt.

so I'm getting ready to change my clutch and my buddy want's to go for a ride and see exactly what its doing. we came to the realization it doesn't seem so much like the clutch is slipping!!?? Under load it starts to free rev but only to about 5-6k and stays at that rpm but not putting much if any power to the wheels...... The smell also doesn't smell so much like burnt clutch, it smells more like raw brake fluid/clutch fluid. However the clutch continues to engage perfectly through every shift and the master cylinder is filled to the top. Also when it slips in and out under load it never jerks or has a feeling of catching and releasing, its all smoothe. I'm going to change the master cylinder and slave cylinder tomorrow and re-bleed the clutch. Also I'm going to put some washers behind the clutch pedal as I was advised to do, cuz I swapped in an s13 clutch pedal and master cylinder into a s14 auto chassis. Any input on what could cause this and how I could better diagnose the situation b4 I change the clutch is very much appreciated!!!!!

sounds like a misadjusted pedal.

try readjusting the clutch pedal, you should have around .25-.5 inches of free play at the top of the pedal before it starts to engage inside the master.

I have exactly the same symptoms and problems. Its not your clutch.

I also have an auto s14 swapped to manual with a s-13 pedal set. Whats this you say about washers?

I get the exact same symptoms as my car warms up. If I let it get to the point where it slips and crack the bleeded on the slave it squirts out fluid.

I have a new master/slave in my car.

I am going to attempt to adjust my pedal as kamin suggests (1/2" before plunger contact) which may fix the issue.

I have been having this issue for well over a year now FYI so if you find a solution let me know!

I do know my clutch slave seems to be getting really hot. I did get a bit of relief by purging new brake fluid into the system.

I know the thread is dead but i'd like to post the answer up just incase anyone comes back to look for an answer...I had the same problem on my KA. When ever i would drive and the car would warm up the clutch would seem like its slipping from like around 3000 to 4000 it would slip and not hold any power. so i couldn't figure it out for a while and the clutch pedal would get stiff sometimes....Well i thought about it and said to myself i did just change out the Master slave cylinder and put everything back together....Then i realize that i didn't re-adjust the Engagement bolt at the top of the clutch pedal and My gosh that was the fix it....By the nut screwed so far in it was allowing the clutch to come back up to where its suppose to be for full engagement thus leaving the clutch some what inbetween disengaged and engaged.
