Early this year I installed a new clutch myself in my 89 240. I reserfaced the flywheel and used everything included in the kit. I broke in the clutch in for a good while. Then when I raced it the clutch slipped like crazy. I adjusted the play and that was the answer. But now in the mornings and when I have not driven the car in awhile it slips in first gear. It use to do it more but its not as bad. Did I glaze my clutch? Should I take it easy and let it break back in? Or is it completly gone?

its more of a chatter. It feels like your driving over small bumps.

clutch slippage is basically like when you step on the gas and your rev goes up, but your going nowhere (like your driving with your foot slightly on the clutch). you'll know it when you see it.

did you replace your master cylinder too? i got a new clutch and pressure plate, and still my clutch was slipping... then i for whatever reason decided to change my master cylinder... no more slippage.. dunno why, but it worked.

Yes I did replace the master cyclinder? Could it be the Slave cyclinder?

A lot of after market clutches do that... especially the "stage" 2 or 3 clutches... try launching it at a higher rpm, and I bet it won't chatter as bad...Most aftermarket clutches are not made for street use.

stages are there mainly for manufacturers. if you have a puck clutch you will most likely be experiencing some chatter. however it is funny that you say this happens when you are racing. because a puck style clutch should be engaged higher than idle (hitting the gas before engaging the clutch). are you engaging the clutch at idle or higher (2k revs or so)also what clutch did you go with?

sometimes people dont tighten them down all the way if they have to move the engine. common mistake, never hurts to check.

i understand you now, but still don't think that's his problem. my clutch was installed when i had stock mounts and it still chatters the same with the aftermarket ones

I bought thishttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

It does not chatter now when I race it on the street since I adjusted the play in the pedel. But it does in first gear in the morning. I usually let the clutch out at 1500 or a little less.

there's no reason for that clutch to cause chatter

Do you think it will eventually break back in because it is glazed or do I have to replace it again? I was chattering worse than it is now.
