Hi all, My 89 240sx clutch seems to be slipping. The clutch engages when the pedal is almost all the way up. It tends to slip when i push the car and when it is hot. There is only 67k on the car. How long do the clutches last anyway? Also the slave cylinder is slightly rusted and i can't push on the lever at all...could it be the problem? Any other ideas on what the problem could be? Thanx for the help Ben

the clutch should last longer than that unless youre hard on it all the time.

you said that the clutch engages all the way at the top of the pedal, so the slave cylinder is doing its job if you can dis-engage the clutch.

does your oil leak? maybe the rear main seal is leaking onto your clutch causing it to break down

Hi, I dont think there are any oil leaks because I dont see any oil spots where I usually park my car. I have been hard on the car for the past week on corners and accelerating but only about once per day. I don't push it throughout the whole day and on every red light. ThanksBen

Haha, i had that problem, took me 700 dollers to realize it was a very small one. I had my master + slave replaced, wasnt it, i had my clutch replaced with a clutch masters stage 1, still not working, finally i decided to take out my clutch dampener and bleed the system, and that solved it.

Take out/bypass the dampening assembly, and bleed your system, that should solve it.

Hey I think i might try doing that dampener assembly thing. I'll have to take a look at that in the morning. Do you think I can bypass it and get away with out bleeding the system? If not I might try adjusting the pedal first. Thanks Ben

Yes you can get away without bleeding it, but i do recommend it because it might be part of your system, its just a theory of mine but air within the clutch hydraulics may be affected by heat, expanding and messing up your clutch. Try doing the bypass, but i do recommend bleeding it. If your problem is like mine, the clutch clamps at different pedal locations depending on outside heat/hot long u've been driving. So if u adjust the pedal it will continue changing on ya.

Hey I took a look at the slave and pedal today. The only thing I could do was bleed the slave. How do you adjust the pedal and how do you bypass the dampener? Do I need to cut wires? Thanks Ben

I bought a stainless steel braided line when i was doin the bypass, if i was doin the bypass i thought i might as well get a better line. Anyway, theres the hardline, which becomes a rubber line, and runs to the dampener, then out the dampener and on, disconnect the softline that runs into the dampener (the box), and disconnect the other end of the dampener, bend the hardline so the rubber line will now reach the other end and connect them together, careful bending the hardline.
