Ok, so along the course of rebuilding the car I replaced the clutch slave cylinder with a new one from o'reilley's mostly as preventative maintenance. I never tried to bleed it or anything because the car just wasn't at that stage yet but I finally got around to it today. However, I was NOT successful, I thought everything was going well when the fluid was coming out of the bleed valve with no bubbles, so I closed the valve off. Then we pumped the pedal to see if it was firm with the valve closed and found to my dismay that the fluid was POURING out of the rubber dust cover over the piston. I'm not talking a drip or two, I'm saying that every time the clutch pedal was pressed down, this piece of horse **** leaked out every bit of fluid displaced in the master cylinder. I'm VERY confused right now as everything I've read says that I replaced it properly. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Also...I just realized that in my haste to get the engine in that night I was doing the engine install, I forgot to pack the release bearing with the lithium grease. Is this a big enough problem that I should pull the transmission, take that piece of crap apart and grease it....or can I just leave it like it is and hope for the best? I cleaned it up pretty well and its doubtful there is any grease whatsoever on it. I also flirted with the idea of opening the rubber boot up around the pivot fork a little and trying to slather some on the transmission shaft from the outside, then re-seal the boot. Would this suffice if I did that and then worked the clutch so it slid up and down in the grease a bit? Thanks for the help guys...I'm feeling like such a noob with the clutch/hydraulic bull****.
