I shredded my clutch really bad trying to get out of my driveway in the snow. I have a 97 240. I have pulled all of the bolts and everything off the transmission to drop it and already have my new clutch to install it. But the transmission WILL NOT COME OFF. I have had 4 of my friends and myself pulling on it and it will not drop. I even used a come along winch and pulled the transmission so hard that it was pulling the engine into the back of the car. I was thinking i needed to reattach the slave cylinder to push the clutch in to release the throwout bearing. But the clutch will not engage AT ALL. in any gear, at any RPM. It is SHREDDED. So if i cannot realease the throwout bearing how do i get my transmission off. And dont just say pull. because believe me. I winched it so hard to where the motor mounts were bending. We have tried pulling it straight back, straight down, and both at the same time. The transmission just wont let go. Thanks for your help.

When you killed your transmission, what gear were you in?

i was slipping if 4th, but i had just shifted into 4th, i was spinning the tires trying to get up this slight incline before the snow got worse. No noise or anything, just smoke from under the hood. shut it off immediately.

hmmm.... I'd check to see if I missed any bolts... which I'm sure you've done plenty of times, then I'd try to pry it with a crow bar (where motor and bell housing meets). If all else fails, tow it to shop... when I replace my clutch, I didn't have a hard of a time as you are now... then again it might be because mines a 93 but there shouldn't be significant differences.

dont i need to release the tension on the throwout bearing to get the transmission to come out? I reattached the slave cylinder to push the pivot arm in to release the tension on the throwout bearing. But the clutch is so burned up that it doesnt engage at all. So I cannot release it. I dont know what to do, the transmission just wont come off. It feels and looks like there is still a bolt in it. But there ISNT. I looked.

the pressure plate has a lot of tension on it, my uncle said that if i can release those then the transmission will just come put, but i cant get to the pressure plate. So i dont know what to do.

The only thing in there is a taperd spline shaft. you must have really got it hot! that shaft goes through the plate, clutch and into the crank. is it even lose? can you move it at all? I would grab the tail shaft and jerk side to side not up and down.

And when you do get it out DO NOT USE AN OEM CLUTCH!

it wiggled a little, it moves the whole engine and exhaust, not just the transmission wiggling. Could it have gotten hot enough to melt the tapered shaft to something?... naa. Im just out of answers. no i bought a fidanza flywheel and exedy clutch.

just a crazy thought but you did undo the gear shift and the sensor at the top of the transmission right? also it helps to turn the transmission on its side to get it to slide out. just some thoughts for you to throw around.... ps the sensor is at the top of the bell housing.....

There is also one bolt that faces the other direction than the other bolts, just check it might be covered in grease, worth a shot.

toahk is reffering to the bolt from the engine side near the starter that goes into the bell housing. the throw out bearing is not your prob if by chance it was stuck, when you pull on the trans it would dislodge the shift fork from the pivot and pull the fork out. trying to remember the last 240sx trans i pulled here, but i believe there is one bell bolt directly at the top one each at 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock one from the bell housing side at 9 o'clock. one from the engine side at 3 o'clock and 3 or 4 bolts across the bottom into brakets mounted to the engine. all clock refrences are as if veiwed from the trans side of bell housing.
