k I'm replacing the clutch in my 97' 4x4 XE. My step-dad had came over the other day while I was at work to get the bearing and sleeve pressed out at his work, and I didn't physically see it assembled b4 he took it. I'm ready to put it back together but just by looking in my haynes manual, it looks like the bearing is flipped on the sleeve. I just wanna make sure the bearing is installed right on the sleeve b4 I pu tthe motor back in. I'll post pics of the bearing and the sleeve below. I'm pretty sure the sleeve goes on with those little ear looking things toward the trans, onto the fork, and the bearing I hope goes on the sleeve, with the smooth side of the bearing(face) toward the transmission, and the bearing side of the bearing, toward the engine... Can anyone confirm this please. I'l searched google, and most pics. I see show it the other way around with the smooth side toward the engine, and the bearing side toward trans. Any help appreciated.

Thank u much gents. The first video helped me out tremendously.looking at the pic u posted REV.. in that picture looks like the smooth side is facing toward engine. .... or perhaps this is just a different type bearing. Manufacturer I mean. On mine. There is one sum tooth side one ribbed kinda side with the middle race. I'm hop king I got it right and assumed the race faces the pressure plate... leaving the smooth non turning side facing the trans. Thanks again and I'll be giving u guys thanks once I get off phone from under this truch and back to my Spinnycpu. Chair. B-)

Yeah, I was sure hoping it was. Wonder why the bearing looks so different. :) And another thing... the damnn clutch tool that came in the box... would NOT fit in the newly replaced pilot bushing. Gotta get u guys pics of the clutch when I took it. out :( 2 Springs broke, PP tooth broke. Engine back in and bolted up in the last hour, it's 9:30 PM on the east coast here. should have it hummin' by day break, just in time for a monring squirrel hunt with my little man. Pics coming soon.

Hey Friend, I was being a little nosey and I noticed something on that picture of that NEW throw out bearing you displayed. It looks like that throw out bearing has a "Plastic Seal" on it. I find these to be okay but only for the short term. The reason why is because I had to replace my OEM throw out bearing on my 1990 Nissan Hardbody, with a clutch kit that included the Flywheel, Clutch, Pressure Plate, Pilot bearing and throw out bearing, which came completely assembled on the throw out bearing hub. Two (2) years and 7,000 Miles later I had to replace the transmission,... and in the "Haynes" Manual, it specified that if the "Throw Out Bearing" is making any noise when you spin it by hand it needs to be replaced, and that's exactly what mine was doing, just after that short period of time. After closely inspecting the throw out Bearing I noticed that some grease had seeped it's way out of the bearing because of that "Plastic Seal" . I purchased a "KOYO" Japanese  throw out bearing on E Bay. This "Bearing" came completely sealed with no seams for grease to escape either.
