ACT makes a good clutch...

What kind of engine do you have?

ACT is a good product, but I think Clutchmasters makes a superior product. They don't advertise their Nissan stuff too much and not too many online shops carry them, but they are worth the money. IMO, it's "the last clutch you will ever buy." Stock pedal pressure, 80%+ more grip.

Stage 0 for an OEM style replacement.

Stage 1 for bolt-ons.

Stage 3 for bolt-ons + up to 75 hp NOS.

(I never figured out what makes a car a good stage 2 candidate!)

They also offer a billet aluminum flywheel.

HTH.

I had a Clutchmasters Stage III on and 85zxt, and that was by far the best clutch that I've ever driven with. The thing caught so hard, and made my tired, beat up transmission break 3rd all day long. Spend the money and buy a Clutchmasters, it is well worth it.

chirping fourth!? im gonna have to call :bsflag on that one. no flame intended or anything, but i cannot see a 240 with the minimal mods you have chirping anything past 2nd, MAYBE 3rd if you now how to powershift. The 240 has nowhere near enough torque to chirp 4th in stock form. I couldn't even chirp 3rd with an ACT 6 puck disk and pressure plate, and I'm a good driver. Hell my Mustang with 300ft.lbs. of torque in stock form rarely chirps 3rd. It was easier to chirp 2nd in the 240 though, the gearing was much shorter. I'd be very impressed to see a stoc k240 chirp 4th with just a clutch and I/E.

I have a centerforce dual friction and love it. ACT also makes really nice clutches.

And I'm gonna have to believe him. When I went to the track I ran a slow 16.4, BUT I was chirping 4th too (Power Shifting). I had my '90 SOHC with a pop charger, an 8 puck racing clutch from Valley Clutch, and Yokohama AVS Intermediates. That's it, I was mostly stock.

I have the ACT street clutch and i can chirp second pretty easy but third is hard (only did it like once or twice and it was nothing to write home about just a tiny chirp) so fourth would have to be close to impossible!

well, im going to have to call :bsflag again to you Xero. if you are running a 16.4 there is no way you are hitting 4th gear in the 1/4 anyways. and if you are you are shifting way too early, and it will only slow you down by shifting into 4th for the last 50 feet.

Interesting thought. I'm pretty sure I would've hit the rev limiter if I hadn't shifted into 4th, but I suppose if there was a way to make my run only up to 3rd, that would be a lot faster. Actually the 16.4 is rather deceptive because I was getting a horrid holeshot on a wet track. (2.4+ 60' times)

Anybody have any thoughts on this (Not on chirping 4th; say what you like, but it happend). I mean anybody have any thoughts on racing with 1st-3rd.

BTW, I have since ditched that clutch because it was too harsh. It was no fun for street driving and it was bogging down my engine under normal driving conditions.

I'm going up to the track next Wednesday. Well . . . actually I was going this Wednesday but it was rainin' :zap . I'm running my recently acquired '89 240SX Coupe w/ 170k miles. It's BONE STOCK! ^ ^ I'm hoping for a 16.5. Anyways, how many RPMs would you guys think I should launch from? I've heard lotsa people say 2500. I was planning on starting there and working up and down from that in 100 RPM increments to find my fastest time. Also . . . how many RPMs should I shift at? Despite the fact that I just recently learned to drive a stick on this car, I haven't redlined it. I notice I have red notches starting at about 6000 RPMs on my meter and solid red at 6500 (or is it 7000?). So. . . is 6500 my redline? or 6000? Where should I shift for optimum quarter-mile performance ^ ^? Anyways, this is just to get an idea of how much I improve after I save up enough dough to buy a CA from Dauntless.

i ran 15.7 in my 91 at around 87 mph...in third gear. it will make for a faster et winding 3rd out than stop accelerating to shift into 4th. what is redline on the SOHC? im sure its lower than it was on my 91, so that may be, i may stand corrected about shifting into 4th, i didnt take into account that the DOCH will most likely rev higher.

It all depends on your gears and mods. If you have a few mods, then obviously you are gonna run through your gears faster, and need to shift into 4th. Stock, I have no idea =) Modded is a different story though.

yeah but a 240 running a 16.4 is obviously not modded and trapping in the low 80's.

I can attest to that. I burnt my stock clutch around 50K and i replaced it with the STAR SPEC 2 from enjuku and ive had it chirp all the way to 4th but when i say chirp im talkin bout lil chicks *chirp* plus its not completely stock. Just basic bolt-ons :rockon
