I've had my Versa for a couple months now. (08, S, 6-speed). I like everything about it so far, except the clutch. I HATE the way it feels, like completely numb thruought it's travel, like there's NO "friction point" where it starts to grab. That and it feels like it is fully engaged as soon as the pedal isn't completely on the floor, like 0-100% engaged with nothing in between) I've had probably a dozen different cars so far, all of them manuals and by far this is the worst-feeling one. (My Miata that I had for 16 years was the best, but that may be the lightened flywheel, performance clutch and braided steel lines I put on ) Does anyone know if the clutch in here is hydraulic or mechanical? I remember being able to adjust one of my older, mechanical linkage clutches so the "friction point" was at a different part of the pedal travel. I'm just commuting in this, I don't expect "drag racer" type launches or anything, just better feeling than I have. OH yeah, I'm not the only 6-speeder here or anything, am I? Thanks.

The clutch line is hydraulic, but it is self adjusting, so no way of adjusting that I know of right off.

You are right on about the clutch being numb. Way too soft a pedal & no feel for engagement.

I don't really think its that bad. I don't have a problem slipping the clutch out, but yes it does seem a little grabby. A different clutch plate may solve that if they ever make them. I also don't drive the car that hard so maybe I don't experience the same feeling.

Ya, it's a pain, especially the first 2 gears. To make matters worse, the RPMs don't drop as quickly on most other cars due to some electronics in the car that's meant to decrease emissions. I've had one other car that had a stick and had no problems and I also have a motorcycle, however, this car is very touch which sometimes results in some sloppy shifts. However, for the price it's not that big of a deal. Just drive like a granny and you're golden.

yeah, ive driven several cars that are sticks (friends cars) and you can feel whether their catch point is, and it gives some resistance pushing the pedal down. for me, it is very numb, and like other said, very grabby... BUT 1st and 2nd are the worst gears in any car... at least for smoothness

I have to disagree, i think the 6 speed in my car is fantastic.... i have never had any difficulties with it... I think its very nice and very smooth and you can even ask reyes about my driving... lol

I have driven numerous stick shift cars in my 30 years of driving and I have only owned one auto transmission rig. The Versa is one of the hardest cars to make a smooth first to second gear shift with. I feel like I really have to think and time it just right and it still doesn't go as smooth as I like half of the time.

oh thank god!

this is my first manual car and even after 2200 miles on it i though i was just a bad driver, now i can blame some of it on the car :D

but i must complement the electronic power steering, almost got into a head on(wasn't my fault) was it not for that

I can even shift gears smoothly with out even touching the clutch.... maybe that just makes me good at it... lol

I drove a couple before buying mine. When shifting, all of them kept the revs up when the throttle was released. I thought that was the reason for my jerking shifting. It's like theyneed a heavier return spring. The throttle is controlled by thecomputer so I doubt a spring would help.

It leaves the rpms up for a second to try to rev match you shifting. Maybe if a car like this was the first stick anyone had ever drove it would work, but when you are use to an imediate drop off then this can mess you up.
