well I am know on the third transmission from nissan, it still sounds horrible at idle once it warms up, my dealership told me they would have me drop it of when the nissan engineer was in town which was supposed to be the week of the twenty seventh, and see if he could fix it, the service director promised he would call, that week, he never called! I called him on friday when he barked at me saying "I don't know the engineers itineary, I call you when he is around and hung up on me", the I went to another Nissan dealership to get my oil changed, the mechanic was nice and let me under the car in the shop when I noticed bits of melted rubber splattered all over the undercarriage. On closer inspection I found the rubber boot under the shift linkage hanging down all torn to peices laying over the driveshaft.. The guy changing the oil, zipped tied it back up and told me I should go back to my dealership and have them fix it. Well I did, and when the mechanic came out to get my car, he got in and revved the motor and dropped the clutch chirping the wheels. So then the mechanic calls me over because he can't find what torn boot I am talking about. I point it out, and he says oh, that O.k. Then he proceeds to bark at me saying " I can't be under the car for insurance reasons, fine, whatever I walk out and go have a ciggy. Turns out they still had not shipped one of the other transmissions they had replaced so the took the boot off of that one. The mechanic returned the car to me in the parking lot with his greasy gloves on, leaving grease on my steering wheel. This same dealership has also gouged/scrapped two rims now, and claimed to have had nothing to do with it. I would take it to another dealership, but other dealerships have told me they will not touch other dealerships warranty work, so I am stuck with windsor Nissan of new jersey in regards to anyhting that goes wrong with this transmission or clutch that still to this day make the noise, worse than ever. Now on Nissans side: I am sure not all are like this, I am sure I am just having a bad experience, But between the engine noise, exsessive paint chipping, and a pleathera of other new noises and defects I a find every other day, I can't say I am having a good time. If anyone in new Jersey, Delaware or pennsylvania know any good Nissan dealerships or Z33 specialist please let me know. I love the car and do not want to lemon it, but I can't live with a brand new 2007 thirty thousand dollar car that sounds like Deisal helicopter at idle after a little normal driving. Well I just had to get it out this whole thing is driving me crazy, I still gotta admit for the price it's and amazing car, and it's beautiful

Your description sounds similar to the problem I had with my 2007 350Z. I purchased it in April, and after a week, I started hearing a clicking, ticking noise with the clutch disengaged. At first I thought it had to do with the tach, for as soon as the clutch pedal was pushed down, the noise would stop. It didn't seem to affect the performance of the car. After several trips to my Nissan dealership, it was determined to be a defect in the heater core. My dealership had a specialist from Japan there for the week, and he was the one that diagnosed the problem. The part took a couple of weeks to arrive from Japan, (none were available in the US), and after it was replaced, the car has been fine. This happened while I was living in the Northeast.......none of the dealers around here (Las Vegas) seem capable of diagnosing or investigatig such a problem.

Freehold Nissan on Route 9 North was supposedly rated number one in customer service. Ther service center there was pretty good. I can't believe you got a new transmission already. I tried to take my car to Freehold because of the noisey idle, they told me that it was a noisy throwout bearing and showed me the door, but if you were able to hussle a new transmission from the other dealers, maybe you can have better luck at Freehold. From what I know, getting them to do work is hard, but they do a good job once you get past the managers.

I am very yconfused, can you give any more details on how the heater core had anyhting to do with a noise that involved your clutch, this makes no sense whatsoever.

Have an 07 Z, took it to the shop Monday, throw out bearing came in this morning and now, just waiting for them to finish. They tried to tell me that it would not be covered under warrenty and that I couldn't get a rental car because NISSAN doesn't "Do" rental cars, but I got it covered under warrenty and got a rental car. Wish me luck.

I have an 07 , had it since may. Noticed a clutch problem for about 3 weeks now, been to the dealer twice and are as of now not willing to correct this problem... In fact they tell me they see no problem. But when the car slips for 2000 rpm in every gear under rolling loads that is bs. I mean dont get me wrong if I drive the car like a 75 y/o women there seams to be no problem but if thats the way I have to drive the car then they can keep it. I race motogp with a kawasaki zx10 and I know when there is a problem with a clutch system! The good thing is, I was about to pump some big money into this car, but this problem happened before that. I know for what I wanted to do to the car none of these problems would matter but I am losing respect for nissan an the car, and your right even though I love the car and am a big nissan z fan maybe it will get traded in, for a Z07, or GT500. Because with what nissan is telling me about how you cant shift like this and you shoulnt downshift like that then I realize that this car is not a real sports car at all.........

If you are going to put alot of money into it why not get an after market cluch, they have some really strong ones out there capable of handeling way more horsepower and harder conditions.

You are correct. Problem is I am still waiting for more aftermarket parts to become availiable for the 07 z, not alot out there right now. But I do have a list. I do have an update in that I went for a drive with a certified z rep and they are now going to throw in a new clutch and pressure plate. He noticed the problem right away and when we got back to the dealer he went right in and ordered the parts. My ? , why are the regular certified mechanics for nissan not able to identify a clutch problem? Well either way I am now satisfied after several attempts to get this fixed..

Thats great you got a new clutch . But your right that does make me a bit nervous about taking my Z to nissan for checkups and all if the regular certified mechanics dont know what there talking about........A clutch problem like your describing shouldnt be that hard to notice anyway expecialy if your a certifeid mechanic.

My 05 G35 just had a new slave cylinder put in for the clutch. So far, so good on the clutch sticking to the floor! The dealer did it under warranty.

Sorry to butt in,

I have a Q45 and my transmission tech told me that I have clutch chatter in my AT. I get a vibration under my seat going from first to second and it seems to shift twice going into third. It goes from second, to second and a half, and then to third.

Anyone know how to fix this, I'd appreciate it.

Hmm well for the first time ever I drove my Z hard... wanted to mess around and mark up the roads I reved up the motor in first and dropped the clutch lots of satisfying smoke, but then i wanted to upshift and found that the pedal was stuck to the floor... i let up on the throttle and the clutch pedal came back up...

I know we talked about it a bit but is there any concrete suggestions??

Thanks guys

Well for what its worth- I work at a Nissan dealership and every, I MEAN EVERY, VQ rwd transmission makes some type of noise that doesnt sound normal. Whether your pushing in the clutch hard at slow speeds (10 mph or less) or just sitting at idle with it in gear, and etc.. G35s, Frontiers, X-terras, and Z's- they all seem to be the same. My best advice is use the heck outta your warranty if u got one(3/36 everything, 5/60 engine+trans). We treat our customers pretty dang good- Ride w/ the master tech if u have to, and if he cant figure it out -We Will Get an Engineer. They can barely speak a lick of english, but can fix almost any Nissan prob.

I have an 07 and my clutch started stick so I took it to the dealer and they fixed it under the Master Tech warrenty. I told them what the problem was the day I took it in and three days later it was fixed and told me the problem was the throw out bearing just as I said, which I got from this post. Any ways yesterday I was driving pretty hard and shifted around 5k rpm and again the clutch stuck down on the floor. This is the first time it has happened since the dealer "fixed" it so hopefully it won't happen again. I'll drive it hard tomorrow and see what happens. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

I have an 06 Z ( 1500 Miles ) same thing.when the clutch is in there is a loud clicking/Rattling. Just started about 1300 Miles. then sometimes when you turn the car off there is a Loud spinning Click.

This is just wrong a 350Z should not sound like a Old VWBug.

your not alone.

Nissan has issued a RECALL for the slave clutch cylinder (sorry, I'm not mechanically inclined) or something like that for the 2007 Z's. My husband purchased a 2007 Z and took it back to the dealership 3 times about his clutch stuttering when engaging. They kept saying that nothing was wrong with it, then we got a notice from Nissan about the recall. He's taken it in to be replaced and the stuttering is now gone. We were told that not all 2007's have this problem, but now they know it exists.

You should have received a recall notice from Nissan if you own a 2007 Z. Don't pay for a new clutch when you don't have to!

Oops, saw the topic posted by quidproquo. Guess everyone already knows about the recall.

I will now get in my Z and drive sheepishly away.
