In 2003 I purchased a brand new 350 Z and a brand new Altima 6cly with a 5 speed manual transmission. At 45K miles the Altima's clutch began to slip and when I took it to the dealer, they informed I had to replace the clutch. Having previously owned Volvos all with manual transmissions, I never had an occasion where I had to replace a clutch even though the cars had in excess of 100K miles. Needless to say, I was very surprised to hear that after only 45K miles I had to replace a Nissan clutch.

When I saw the clutch and pressure plate, I was surprised to see the flywheel and pressure plate scorched and when the mechanic asked me if we "drag raced" the car, I couldn't help but laugh histerically. My wife is in her mid 40's, and has always owned manual transmission vehicles and by no means "drag races". Well, maybe she has a secret life I'm not aware of.................and drifts with the kids in the neighborhood.

The car now has another 30K miles and the clutch is once again starting to slip. This is my first Japanese manufactured vehicle and I find it hard to believe I have to replace the clutch again and the car hasn't even reached a 100K miles. Is this is the norm for Nissan's? If so, I'm ready to go back to the Volvo's.
