First off im a newbie to all this. Just joined the forum not too long ago, so i hope i posted this in the right place...

i have a 91 240sx coupe w/ an sr swap. when i got the swap done i had an act clutch installed. Not too long after that my clutch master cylinder went out...so i got a new one.

now for the problem itself. whenever i step on the clutch to change gears, it wont come back up. it'll stay halfway down and i have to pull it back up w/ my foot. at first it was no real problem, annoying, but nothing big i guess. now...im having a little trouble getting it into first.

i already checked the master cylinder again for any leaks...what else should i look for? help me out guys...

Check the slave cylinder also. Maybe it is a problem with the actual pedal though. I know there is a spring up there, maybe that is not in correctly. If you slave had a leak, it would go all the way to the floor, but you wouldn't have a working clutch.

Try bleeding the lines as well, it's done just like the brakes. And if you still have the stupid damper box in, take it out and bend the hard line to meet the rubber line on the slave cylinder. It will make it so much easier to bleed the clutch and you will love the feel of the clutch afterwards, much stiffer.

Hmm Idk dude, remember even new parts can be defective. Sounds like the master could be leaking a little. A customer of my boss's master cluth cyl. was leaking pressure a little on his 60 something Bug dragster. It wouldn't hold the clutch, brand new everything.

When you pump up the clutch and you have pressure, have you ever gone to the master cyl. and opened it? Is there a hiss or you feel air escaping?

If so the seal inside the master is leaking pressure, it will hold it, but won't seal completly. If not IDK man but how would changing the engine/trans fix your clutch? All it is a simple hydraulic system...

i agree^^ it is very possible that your new master is bad also. it sounds to me like your losing pressure in there since you just realized it was hard getting into 1st. i would try another

stuff seems to be (OK) for now im gonna bypass the pedal softener and see if that helps it feel better.....im fixing to have to do a rebuild (top end) and im gonna do the transmission myself......but till then im up for suggestions..............1993 240sx coupe ka24de cold air .....muffler......my car runs pretty darn good to be high milage but when i sit @ a red light or in a spot for a while .....i mash the gas and it smokes like crazy.....then sort of clears out.....some days it does it sometimes it might be weeks with no smoke.....uses oil a lil but doesnt leak or click or knock............

first off welcome to the forum. ive had that promlem 1000000000 times. fill up the master, get a friend to bleed the slave. pump 20 times stop bleed. repeat that for about 10 times. if it doesnt work theres adjusting the petal but your problem lies with lack off preasure. just tryin to help. gl

did you give the clutch hell before the breakin period? the two serfaces have to get along before they can work together.
