I have a 1993 300zx and over the past few days I noticed the clutch has been engaging lower and lower to the floor. I had suspicions it may be going. Just this morning I started it up and it would not shift into 1st or any gear. There is also a lot more freeplay in the clutch pedal than there ever used to be. Is this locking up just a result of the clutch going? or bigger transmission problems?

Welcome to NICO!

Your clutch might be going out. Have you check the clutch fluid lately? I would check that to make sure you have enough fluid in there. Also, try adjusting your clutch pedal.

Thanks freakonaleash, just one probably dumb question...is the clutch fluid that little reservoir right next to the ABS housing in the corner? I opened it up and it was def below the min line. Also, this all happened within a matter of a couple days. if the clutch was going it would prob take longer than that right?

Yes, the clutch fluid reservoir is the little one next to the brake fluid reservoir, make sure that is at the right level. You might have a leak at the slave cylinder or master cylinder.

Check your slave cylinder. Its easy to find and get at from under the car and they often rust out. According to your description, this would appear to be the problem.

I refilled the clutch fluid and was able to get the car in gear and drive it but the clutch still feels very low. I checked it over night and it doesnt appear to have a leak that i can see. would the slave be next to check before assuming the clutch is on its way out?

i had the same problem. next time you go out driving try to downshift to slow down before stepping on your brakes and if it wont let you downshift then it most likely is either the clutch master or clutch slave clyinder. but if it wont let you downshift then its about to give out really soon.
