So I am picking up my first car tomorrow after a long long wait of finding one.Found a really good one, only problem is that the clutch pops in all gears. By clutch pop im referring to a hard jerk in the car when Im letting off the clutch into second third fourth and fifth. It does not do it in first. Atleast the 2 times that I stop and went. No matter how lightly i engage the clutch in the last 4 gears it will still have a very slight pop to a very hard one.

A little info, The PO just installed a stage 3 clutch and flywheel a few weeks ago. He also replaced the slave cylinder, and i dont remember him mentioning the master cylinder. Its a sohc ka with stock transmission. If anyone could give me a heads up as to what the problem could be that would be great. i listed all the info that I know of but anything that you think i missed just let me know. Thank you very much.

The inspection reffered to it as clutch play. They said it could possibly be the slave cylinder but I dont see how that could be a problem seeing as its brand new and professionaly installed by a reputable shop.

You can bleed it if you haven't already. The process is real similar to bleeding brakes...also if its a puck clutch it'll be grabby by nature (just guessing by "stage 3") and if its not a sprung hub it'll also be much harder to manage. A lot of street/strip or race clutches tend to be 4 or 5 puck designs without sprung hubs, and they bite hard, as they should, they're made to deal with a lot of power.

Personally I'd second guess the clutch play issue, I've not heard of that causing hard grabs, although I have heard of people installing clutches and not resetting the cam at the clutch pedal, which causes the clutch to bite very early in pedal release, though I couldn't help ya with resetting the cam on that particular car, or even if it needs to be, some are designed to do it on their own.

In the end, best bet is to take it to someone you trust. Shell out the money, sure, but you only have to do it once.

Thanks so much for the advice. Well yeah I just got the car yesterday and im gettin used that grab. all i need to do is left off the clutch a little bit slower at the friction point and it'll glide right in. Thank you very much for your advice though it helped me alot. ill be bleeding my clutch soon as well as doin a usual tune up on the car. thanks again for the help

It's a stage 3? I would think it'd have a wicked bite. It's normal. I got a stage 2 in my Jetta, and it's the same thing. Bites real hard.

yeah if i push the rpms in second dump the clutch, it will have a bite as well as some rubber left on the road. kinda surprising for a sohc stock.
