needle bearing = waste fo money and more likely to fail in the future

to get the pilot out you pack the cavity with gear grease, then take your clutch alignment tool, and break the ring off the end of it, place it in the hole and hit it with a hammer, the gearse ont he inside will hydraulically push the bearing out, you just need to get the hole full of grease and not air

to get the pilot out you pack the cavity with gear grease, then take your clutch alignment tool, and break the ring off the end of it, place it in the hole and hit it with a hammer [multiple times], the gearse ont he inside will hydraulically push the bearing out, you just need to get the hole full of grease and not air
That method does work quite well, but I've never got it out with one strike. Hitting it with a 2 lb mallet worked great for me, about 7-8 wraps with the mallet got the bushing out.

If that doesn't work you can rent a pilot bushing puller from AutoZone or any auto parts place that loans tools. It's a slide hammer with tiny jaws to pull the bushing out from the inside.

2nd on the needle bearing, not worth it IME.

I accually just made a puller out of a 3" m8 bolt(subaru cam carrier bolt lol), nut, a big 1" shallow socket, and a pencil. I put the head end of the bolt in there and let the flanged edge of the bolt head grab the backside of the bushing, then I wedged two short pieces of a no. 2 pencil in there to hold it in place. then i sliped the socket over all of it, threaded the nut on and started wrenching, it popped out after about 45 seconds of wratcheting no greese, no mess.

about the needle bearing, seems like it would help with drag

yeah it usually takes 3 or 4 wacks to get ti out

drag, what drag? the imput shaft should fit right in the middle of the opening, if it's pressing on one of the sides (causing drag) you'll tear up the imput bearing on your transmission and maybe the rear main bearing on the engine, roller pilot bearings rate right up there with multi tip spark plugs on ways to waste money

when i say drag i mean the crankshaft still spinning the trans input shaft because the pilot bushing was sticking still grabbing the input shaft and not leting them spin independently, this would only happen at a stand still, making it hard to get into gear, cause thats one of the problems i was having, but between that and the warped carbonetics clutch internals i don't know which was the culpret, i found chunks of the pilot bushing under the pressure plate when i took it off. and when i took the pilot bushing out it has stress fractures all trough it.

thats not why you are having a hard time getting it in gear, your clutch was worn or your pedal wasn't adjusted or there was air in the system preventing you from getting full disengagement

when you depress the clutch pedal, the clutch disk is still spinning the imput shaft and it will cause more "drag" than the pilot bearing
