clutch pedal

I don't know if I'm having issues or if I'm crazy but on my clutch pedal the return spring tab is gone and when I put this pedal in it didn't line up with my nss so I just bypassed it could this be a problem the clutch isn't that old and I don't want to do it again. It also shudders when I start going in first gear. Could these be linked? What should I do all help appreciated. It a 90 sohc and as far as I know it has always been a 5 speed
