Ok, i just dropped the transmission, replaced the rear main seal (was leaking VERY badly), and replaced the stock flywheel with a Fidanza lightweight one. Now that ive got everything back together, it starts and idles great (starts faster than before too). But my clutch pedal doesnt engage until the pedal is almost on the floor. I have bleed the clutch slave and damper twice now and no air came out at all and the pedal engagement has not changed at all. What do i have to do to bring the pedal engagement back towards the middle of the pedal travel? The pedal travel is still the same, its just not engaging the clutch till the very bottom.

As the clutch disc wears the pressure plate moves closer to the flywheel. Those fingers on the diaphragm spring that throw out bearing pushes on act as a lever, so as the pressure plate moves further in the fingers stick further out so the throw out bearing (release bearing in the picture) engages sooner on an old clutch, making it grab higher...

I would check the FSM and measure your pedal travel and engagement...If it is all with in spec I wouldn't worry about it.

There is a clutch adjustment on the threaded section of where your clutch master cylinder meets up to the pedal. Do the adjustment there. Only other thing I can think of is where did you attach the fork to the throwout bearing carrier? Have a buddy press on the pedal while you look down below to see how far your clutch slave cylinder moves.

The slave cylinder piston looks like its moving just fine, its just not releasing the throwout bearing until the pedal is right at the floor. The pedal comes back up, no sticking, but its REAL hard to drive when the pedal engages sooooo low. About the fork, if it came off of the pivot bolt, what would happen then? Im pretty sure it didnt, but i really dont want to pull the transmission AGAIN (but i will if i have too....). I reused the Centerforce II clutch i had in there, and it looked nearly brand new, just dirty from use, so its not a wear problem. And the slave cylinder is less than a month old.

Can anyone tell me how far the slave cylinder is supposed to move altogether (in inches or whatever)? Then i can compare to my travel and see where the problem may lie.....

Seems like you need to adjust your pedal. like what "180fan" has said.

Ok, so i disconnected the master cylinder pushrod from the pedal, turned the fork until it was almost maxed out on length (it was maxed out the opposite way before), and put it back together. Now i am confused: when the pedal is all the way on the floor, it is about an inch away from the starter safety switch. I know i can adjust this up so that it comes in contact with the pedal, so the car will start, but doesnt this seem like the opposite of what i am wanting? Arent i wanting the clutch to engage HIGHER in the pedal travel and by lengthening the pushrod im making it engage LOWER in the pedal travel, effectively making the clutch engage once the pedal has traveled PAST its max and theoritically through the floorboard? Remember, before this the pushrod was adjusted to max shortness, and before i installed the flywheel, there was absolutely zero wrong with the pedal engagement. Thank you so far for the help, keep it coming!!

Nevermind, you guys were all 100% correct!! I got it, working great, just have to fine tune the pedal height now. THANK YOU ALL!!!!
