Need some help with my clutch pedal.

Just bought this 95 240sx base. Guy i bought it from said he just replaced the clutch 6 months ago. I can drive the car fine, just that when i let off the clutch pedal it doesn't come back all the way. it comes back like maybe half way and the other half doesn't have no pressure(free play length?).

When i'm driving it seems like the clutch is not letting go of the flywheel all the way even when the pedal is fully depressed. Sometimes hard to shift, like if i were to shift fast it would grind. so i always shift slow. What could this be?

Went to the mechanic and i guess they just checked for leaks and said it was ok.

Thanks

Please don't tell me i need a new clutch or transmission...

Sounds like you need a new clutch master cylinder to me. If not, the current one needs to be bled more. Before those options, make sure the master is connected correctly to the clutch pedal and properly fastened to the firewall in the engine compartment. Good luck!

maybe just air in the lines. our cars are very hard to bleed. there is a clutch damper box by the master cyl. i highly reccomend just getting rid of that darn thing. its useless and just causes problems. you can bend the hardline to mate up with the master cyl hose. do that and bleed again. i bet that solves your prob.

thanks for the advice, I was also thinking of air in the system. Will also delete that clutch damper thing. Saw a write-up somewhere once about it, can someone direct me to one please. It was about the hardlines that went under the car right? thanks again.

will post results when finish

You don't need that in the clutch hydraulic system? Damn.... I did an auto to 5speed swap and that must've been the reaon I was having such a hard time bleeding the system! What exactly does it do?

I'd take it back to the shop. The release bearing retainer spring could be bent. If it snaps you'll have no clutch at all and won't be able to move the car. Usually it's not replaced along with the clutch itself so be prepared if this in fact is the problem $5 part 4 hours labor. Hopefully that's not it though.

What does it do? It prevents you from bleeding the system!

Anyway, I think it's just a stupid NVH thing. Keeps any of those nasty drivetrain vibrations from your clutch pedal. You certainly wouldn't want to feel like you're actually driving a car, would you? It perpetuates the image sold to us by auto manufacturers that our cars don't actually have any moving, mechanical parts and are actually powered by magic fairy dust.

Sorry...it's late. You can also buy a steel braided line to bypass that box. Nismo makes one, as does SPL. As you may have guessed, putting the stainless line in Nismo packaging raises the price by 50%.
