So I've just finished building my engine :) :) :Image

The short story behind the build is this: I bought a 90 D21 from my cousin knowing the engine may need a rebuild. It did. It's done. However he told me the transmission had been acting up somewhat before the engine blew. He said he would have problems downshifting and it wouldn't downshift unless he came to a stop basically. I'm wondering if there's any chance that a completely worn clutch could cause this to happen. It definitely looked like original clutch that i removed and the truck has 120K-ish miles. Any chance that was the problem? OR Should I just get a junkyard trans and be done with it? Thanks!

Sounds like a synchro problem. The synchros job is to slow gears down for smoother engagement. If the yellow metal is all used up or worse...eaten by GL5...then it's rebuild or replace. If the clutch isn't fully disengaged with the pedal all the way to the floor then it's either worn out or there is air in the system. The clutch could cause this as well. If the engine was beat enough to need a rebuild at 120k then the clutch is probably toast too, sounds like abuse.

Okay so it may be worth it to just try it with my new clutch?
