Just for a quick you don't care background, I am a left foot amputee and drive a 5sp (yay for me). The reason I mention this is that I have no feel whatsoever for the clutch or pedal. I cannot tell if it's soft or hard and really aside from sound and feel of the car during the shift I have no input.

The other day as I was routinely shifting from first to second my foot got hung up on the firewall step (or w/e you want to call it on the left firewall) and I had to force the (rolling) car into gear a bit to get out of an intersection. It ground pretty hard on the syncros going in. Since then I have noted that every gear feels really notchy and makes a slight syncho noise while shifting. It acts a lot like I don't have the clutch fully pressed. In spite of the noise and notchy feel, there is no slip under power on the clutch while engaged.

By forcing it into gear, is it possible to damage the shift fork on the clutch or hurt all the synchos at once? Perhaps bend something else like a shift rod that would possibly cause the noise?

First, congrats on 5 speeding it with the amputation. I don't think you could damage the entire transmission like that on a single shift. A lot of people power shift, although its maybe at higher RPMs than what you were at in the intersection.

For now, you might want to first have someone else drive it, especially if they've driven 300ZX 5spds to give you an opinion on the feel of the clutch. You could bleed the clutch fluid to be sure for now: don't forget to use brake fluid and the extra bleed point. Also replacing transmission fluid with Redline MT-90 can help smooth out a lot of grinding, whether it was damaged before or not.

I know right? The horror. :lolling:

That would probably be the best choice though. If not possible, anyone that has lots of time with a manual would also work, a manual is a manual and should all operate broadly similar.

Hahahaha!

Yeah! With you on the passenger side, driver side T-top off, and the eject button in your hand. You can always get another seat!

Lol! :lolling:

Well....

It wasn't the clutch, but the shoes I was wearing. The lugs on the shoe were catching the foot rest and not allowing the clutch to go down all the way.

With that said, my life as a Z owner SUCKS, lol It seems as if every time I fix one thing I find two others....

I will make a separate thread for that story though.
