Hi All.Glad to have found this spot. I am new to the forums.

I've got a 95 240sx with about 94K miles on it. Had a new clutch installed a few months ago after hearing weird noises and having trouble engaging 1st gear.

Ever since then it feels like I am mashing it into gear when moving the shifter into 2nd or 3rd gear. This problem seems to lessen as the car warms up. It also feels like gears are not engaging until the clutch pedal is nearly all the way to the "up/released" position. I took it in for an eval and they are telling me it is a transmission problem - $750 to investigate! Ouch.

Question: Does the problem sound more like a transmission problem than a clutch problem?

Since the problem only surfaced after the new clutch was installed, I was kind of expecting it would only need some sort of clutch adjustment. The service guy says there is nothing to adjust. Is this true?

Thanks!

It can be ...in my opinion... Mine used to do that...the drain plug was loose and it was loosing gear oil. Check the fluid. If its low or the oil is too thick it will do that... That might explain why it does it less when its warm. When its cold the oil is thick, as it warms it thins. If its not the oil, then its probably the clutch...I might just need an adjustment. It might not be engaging all the way. Try double cluthing when you shif and see if that stops the grinding.
